As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza drenched with vibrant pink blossoms, you might have to pinch yourself. The amazing location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.
But wait, there's more. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the largely intact Greek Theater has amazing views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Great summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars feature live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, with a clock tower and church overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the center of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the southwest, there's a long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and to the north is the bay by Mazzaró.
As you'd expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there's no shortage of places to stay in Taormina on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, centrally located apartments and luxury B&Bs.
“Perfect central location, but quite place. Cable car station for the beach just round the corner. Very clean and comfortable. Nice stunning views from terrace and rooms with sea view. Excellent breakfast. Staff was very friendly and always ready to help. Special thanks to Ms.Pina.”
“Sam dominico is a very special place: architecture, location over the sea, unique garden, space, staff”
“Everything about the hotel was excellent. Our triple room was comfortable and spotless. Fabulous view and nice private balcony overlooking Isola Bella. Breakfast was good with excellent service by Gabrielle. The desk staff was helpful and knowledgeable. Special thanks to Daniello and Sandro for arranging our cooking class! There is not a full restaurant in the hotel, but there are very good options just a short walk away, and the finicular up to town.”
“Beautiful location - amazing views of the sea and Mount Etna and close to the town centre Attentive staff - nothing too much trouble Restaurant - delicous food”
“Me and my Wife Julie planned our wedding around Simple Minds performing at Teatro Greco, and Villa Angela was the icing on what was a fairytale once in a lifetime event ! Setting aside our love of the Music, Villa Angela is set high up in the hills, within stunning surroundings of Taormina with amazing views of the bay and Mount Etna from your own private sun terrace. Shuttle Buses operated by Villa Angela run throughout the day and until 23.30 pm for an amazing 20 Euros per person per week. Villa Angela is rated as four star, but I would rate it much better than that, and all prices are very reasonable. The property itself is designed to the highest specification, and no attention to detail is spared. It is a very lovely place. All the Management and Staff at Villa Angela are the most friendly and loveliest people we have ever met. I would prefer to call them our friends as opposed to staff.. Nothing is too much trouble, in fact they go that extra mile to ensure your stay far exceeds expectation. We still find it difficult to find appropriate words that sum up just how excellent our stay was, and it was a very sad time indeed when we had to leave.. However we will be returning every year for our anniversary. Villa Angela is suitable for families, couples etc and offers stunning views of Sicily, exceptional service, a large variety breakfast both hot and cold, Sun Terrace Swimming Pool and may other facilities...but be warned, it gets booked up very quickly ! Finally our heart felt gratitude and congratulations to Katherine, Charlie, Jim Kerr and every one associated with Villa Angela for making our wedding amazing and never to be topped !! See you next year xxxx”
“Friendly staff, spacious room, good breakfast, very central. Hotel Victoria is always my address in Taormina”
“Location is excellent. Facilities are great and the staff are very friendly!”
“Great location, very friendly helpful staff, good food. Certainly had character.Pool in great location, but you have to be fit to walk those steps up and down. Sitting by the pool under orange trees full of fruit was amazing. The views from everywhere are wonderful.”
“Perfect location with a stunning view.”
“Very impressive decorations with beautiful antique pieces, amazing views and incredible breakfast!”
“The lower sea view restaurant was amazing (only open at nights in summer months) facilities were fantastic. Breakfast on the deck staring at the vista including Mt Etna was so memorable. Free bus up to Taormina town. Walk to Isola Bella, close to freeway if driving and free parking if you can get a spot or 10 euro underneath. We were upgraded. Wifi only in foyer for free but they gave my daughter free wifi so ask!”
“The hotel location is nicely tugged away with few steps away from the garden to the swing of crowds and buzzling street of Corso Umberto. The staff are all very helpful - e.g. assisting in booking last minutes tours, getting taxi for early hour (4:00 am) for our flight from Catania, guiding us to sights around Taormina. Above all the room was lovely with a balcony over looking the garden, quiet, clean. As there isn't much to do after our 3rd day stayed we enjoyed just seating on the terrace with an aperitif waiting for our dinner. The steps even with luggage if one is to walk from the bus terminal coming from Corso Umberto it is not too difficult to climb. The steps are wide but a taxi from the bus terminal to Continental is only 10 Euro. Highly recommend Continental as the staff are friendly and most helpful.”
“everything was just perfect. a rare top class hotel”
“The view was absolutely breathtaking wonderful place”
“It is in a great location, breakfast is excellent, rooms are very clean. It has a nice pool to relax during the summer months. Would recommend this hotel.”
“The very best hotel we have stayed in our 24 day trip. Beautiful, modern, comfortable. Great staff and great location. It is a real boutique hotel and the breakfast was also very intereting. It is a must if you go to Taormina.”
“- scenic view of the sea - relaxed atmosphere in the hotel -excellent & varied breakfast - opportunity to use local PADI dive centre on the beach - cable car to Taormina town in the evening for a wander & meal”
“Good location. Friendly helpful staff. Very clean. Changed our room when we weren't happy with first room. A solid 4 star hotel for italy, don't expect 5 star for 4 star prices.”
“Old school feel, the breakfast room and the grounds of the hotel is 5 star look and feel, a bit of face lift of the rooms and bathrooms would easily make this hotel a 4 star, loved it”
“Il Cantone del Faro's location right on the beach and hotel's restaurant is perfect for relaxing and swimming. We had a PV-covered rooftop apartment with a great sun terrace and beautiful views on Taormina and Giardini Naxos. The manager, Salvatore, was incredibly friendly and always good-humoured, never felt more welcome. The restaurant itself is a much nicer spot to sit than anywhere in Giardini Naxos. Pretty Taormina is reachable by car, tough bike ride or - as we did - a sporty climb up the cliff path. Very nice.”
