Breakfast and dinner was great, plenty of choices, well presented and very tasty.
Room was comfortable and clean and had all that we needed.
Nice grounds and in a quiet location, although close enough to Canterbury for a quick drive.
The staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating - nothing was an issue for them.
Would recommend this to others. If we go again, I would ask to stay in the newer part.
Did enjoy our stay there.

The property was lovely and clean, and the room nice and quaint. Continental breakfast was what I expected, enjoyed it! Location was absolutely perfect - right in the middle of everything, restaurants and bars nearby, and a short walk from the cathedral.

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury. We did 3 x Day trips - to Whitstable, Margate and Ramsgate. Then the White Cliffs of Dover and on our final day did a day trip to Dover Castle.

Beautiful with loads of independent shops.
Beautiful with loads of independent shops. Really beautiful gems around the cathedral. Difficult to find decent parking in town. Public car parks not cheap and can’t vouch for their safety. Most city centre hotels don’t have their own car parks…which is a big problem.

I know Canterbury well as parents have lived in many locations surrounding the area including Reculver, Herne Bay, Seasalter, Whitstable. Not easy to get around from area to close area outside Canterbury using taxis. No taxis from various train stations to various surrounding areas. When travelling with friend in wheel chair it was a nightmare. Could not get any taxis. Luckily we were able to rely on relatively good bus services using disabled free bus passes.

The cathedral was beautiful !
The cathedral was beautiful ! The neighborhood has a lot of walkable streets wear tennis shoes though uneven pavements , very unsafe feeling environment where cycles park. There is limited parking there so you have to park blocks away and pay a premium.

We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to around the city; had we come by car we would have gone further afield and I am sure there were buses but this was deliberately a one night city break and we covered everything by walking.
Local independent shops were good, Corkk for English wines and good coffee shop opposite Burgate Coffee Shop with fantastic cakes. The Parrot and The Dolphin served good food and drinks.

Canterbury is a lovely old historical partly walled City,...
Canterbury is a lovely old historical partly walled City, it has a beautiful Cathedral and a castle well worth visiting. The high st is a mixture of modern and quaint old shops, the older buildings/architecture is lovely to see. Great variety of cafes/restaurants/pubs to visit . We visited the Olive Grove for dinner on the first night great food , very friendly staff, good atmosphere! Guided walks available throughout the day & evening . Two days was not enough to see & do all we wanted,
Will definitely be back again soon.
This was my wife's favourite place to stay during our break. It was clean. It was also quiet, which impressed me given one evening there was live music in the pub below. By chance, they happened to serve my favourite beer from my student days, and I can assure you I did test it, although not in my student day style.
The Inn is very well placed to explore both Canterbury and the surrounding area, being in walking distance of the town centre, well placed for driving, and very close to one of the railway stations.
Realising that this was not a hotel, but someone's home, I read the information carefully. It was worthwhile, as it was my first ever Homestay. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable, with several extras that bettered good hotels. The value for money was excellent. Although it is not in the city centre, it is not far away, and well worth considering strongly for a stay in Canterbury. I would thoroughly recommend it, and will hope to stay there again.
Location, just outside the City Gate -- easy walk into centre and the cathedral. The Dickens Room was clean, light, airy and spacious, with view of city wall tower. Not noisy, in spite of facing on a busy street. Staff was helpful with parking next door and a city map. Breakfast was attractive and generous, but lacking in protein. Everything was sweet. A boiled egg, or some cheese would benefit people with blood sugar concerns.
The hotel is in a great location with plenty of parking available. The city centre is within 20 minutes by foot, so it's brilliant to be able to leave the car and enjoy strolling through the old city. Breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly. The room was clean, cozy and spacious with a bathtub included. Good WiFi connection. This hotel will be our first thought whenever we visit Canterbury again.
The location was excellent, right in the centre of Canterbury.
The beds were very comfortable & the rooms were clean. At hotel is well maintained & the reception area welcoming.
The food & beverage team managing the breakfast area were very helpful, looking after one of our party who was gluten intolerant & found us somewhere to sit when the breakfast area was heaving..
Spacious room. Good bathroom.
Great location in central Canterbury.
Friendly staff.
Breakfast buffet was okay. I enjoyed the fresh radish and cucumber with my scrambled eggs and it was nice that they have a separate hot water provision for tea. In many hotels it is part of the coffee machine, where it never makes nice tea. The tea is nice at this hotel.
The hotel is located just of the main street in a quiet residential area with a beautiful garden at the rear where you can sit out. The rooms were clean, comfy and well stocked, ours had a mini fridge. Breakfast was full english with a buffet of cereals, pastries etc. Just a few minute walk from the centre of Canterbury so perfect.
Breakfast was hearty to start the day, Dinner was very good with good prices, room was very clean and roomy, and plenty of parking with secure lighting. Great location to accomplish several short day trips in the area like seeing the Canterbury Cathedral, a restored Viking ship near Ramsgate. and a medieval castle like Dover Castle.
The hotel is located in a very central area close to all amenities, the Cathedral and boat ride opportunities. It was very clean and stylish. It offers parking opportunities (offered with extra payment though). Nice restaurant for breakfast and interesting bar. Very welcoming and accommodating staff.
Comfy room with view of cathedral. Decent size with two comfy chairs and a table in the bay window.
Quiet at night since windows towards cathedral grounds which are closed at night.
Nice to be able to wander around the cathedral grounds (included as hotel guest)
Good powerful shower
The location of the hotel is excellent, within a short walk of Canterbury city centre. Parking was easy and free. The gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and the menu was excellent. The staff were extremely polite and helpful.
We would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is located about 3 miles from Canterbury centre with no bus service. There is however a park and ride at Wincheap for £4/day with very frequent bus service into town centre.
The breakfasts at the hotel are excellent and the dinner menu good value for money.
I love Cathedral Gate Hotel and is my favourite in Canterbury. If you are coming to visit the Cathedral, this is the best and most traditional Hotel. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and the staff takes great care of you. I highly recommend Cathedral Gate Hotel.
Pub staff was incredibly friendly and professional. The dinner menu was quite tasty and they were able to fit me in without a booking. Also the size of the tub in the room was delightful; I'm quite tall and I could actually fit into it which is rare in hotels.
fantastic location - a few minutes walk from the city centre and close to the canterbury city centre coach stop. The breakfast was excellent ( personal service and not buffet style), the room is clean, spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
Hotel staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. It was easy to access our room, request anything that we needed. It was particularly helpful to leave the car and walk into Canterbury and avoid the hassle of parking in the city center.
Nice flat in a quiet block. Excellent location within walking distance of the centre of Canterbury. Lovely comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable seating area. Parking is a real bonus especially in Canterbury.
Setting and sighting of hotel. Ideally located for walking in Canterbury and going further afield if you wanted to discover the local area.
Good choice of breakfast and a nice warm welcome.
Very easy to check in and rooms were available when we arrived. Good selection for breakfast. Easy walk into the centre of Canterbury. whole visit worked out very well.
