Upon reading some of the reviews, I was quite skeptical to book the room, especially as I was traveling with a 5 year old kid. But for 44 pounds, I thought we could try it and if we didn’t like it, we could just get to another hotel. The hotel met my expectation just fine. The check-in process was a breeze. The lady who checks you in is very kind and understanding (unlike some of the bad reviews). She gave us a room with 3 beds as I had a child with me; we chatted a little bit and she was definitely the HIGHLIGHT of our stay. She has been with the hotel for a decade and is an extremely kind and knowledgeable manager. The hotel and the rooms are old but very clean. The linen, the towels and the room was spotless. We had hot water; a kettle with tea and coffee. Plugs are not in perfect places but keep in mind its an old building. The location is right in town center; 5 mins walk to a Waitrose and 10mins walk to the train station. I had absolutely nothing to complain about. Keep your expectations aligned with the reality that it’s an old hotel and you will be fine.

It is a wonderful little place to stay. It is very special with all the cars around that you can have a look at. Amazing to think the owners made all of it themselves. The breakfast area is so much fun! I wish I could have stayed longer.

This charming, quiet town has lovely canal walks and a large public park next to the town centre. The high street has good eateries and nice little shops. Don't miss the Coffee House Cafe, with it's great sandwiches and all-day cooked breakfast!
If you want to explore further the helpful staff in the central tourist office will suggest various self guided historic walks.
It is a perfect spot to overnight only a 15 minute drive from Stansted airport (and is NOT on the flight path, so no noise of passing planes), and easily reached by public bus #510 (or #509) which runs a regular service to and from the town even at night.

Bishops Stortford is a lovely old town which is relatively compact so it is easy to walk around the town centre. There is a good range of shops and quaint tea rooms and excellent restaurants. There’s a river and the station is close to the town centre. It can be a bit noisy especially on Saturday evenings.

Bishop's Stortford is a very picturesque town with friendly people who seem disposed to being welcoming and helpful to travellers. We were only passing through on our way from Stansted Airport to London, nevertheless, we enjoyed visiting the town and would have liked to have stayed a little longer to explore it a bit more

I had limited time to explore the town but I enjoyed walking around on Saturday and noting the mixture of the old historic architecture and the new building. There were plenty of options to eat or stop for a drink.

Lovely little town.
Lovely little town. We was just staying overnight for the Standon Calling Festival and it’s perfect location for anyone going to this. Just about 20 minutes in a taxi from the site. Lots of pubs and nice coffee shops for breakfast the next day. Nice quaint little town with plenty to do.

As we were arriving late and leaving before dawn for an early flight, our experience was limited but excellent nonetheless. Super room lovingly created in art deco style with some period features and good replica pieces where originals were unavailable. But the kitchen was worth the visit in itself. The owners have gone over and above in fitting out this extraordinary space where all your needs are catered for on a self-service basis. We chose the hotel for its proximity to Stansted airport but wish we could have stayed longer.
The location was perfect! It was a short walk to town with many restaurants, shops and grocery stores and the train station. Its proximity to Stansted Airport was extremely convenient by bus/train, making our flight out stress-free. The apartment itself was comfortable, spacious and quiet. The host was very responsive and welcoming.
Everything was just as described and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay here. We hope to stay again next time we're in Bishop's Stortford!
Very accommodating hosts who were always quick to respond and let us check out late. The place is a short (and lovely) walk away from the train station and the center. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable and the place has a well equipped kitchen for a short stay. It was well stocked with fruit, sweets and everything we needed for coffee, tea and breakfast, which was very much appreciated and definitely a nice touch.
Lovely friendly service - in particular Jenny at reception was incredibly helpful to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Loved the tennis courts and outdoor chess game, and the gym and spa were fabulous - Charlotte does the best facials! The grounds and old part of the hotel are beautiful, and the food was delicious - amazing dinner and sandwiches/scones for afternoon tea.
The location is great as it is right in the centre of Bishops Stortford. The bedroom was a good size and comfortable and the en-suite was relatively new. The reception isn’t manned so there is a number to ring but we were fortunate that there was someone in the premises when we arrived. it was very convenient as we had a family party in the centre of Bishops Stortford.
Perfect for an overnight stay. Economical use of a small space. Welcome pack of milk/fruit/biscuits a nice touch. Electric fan was a result as stay was during the heatwave. 10 min walk from town centre. Park directly opposite to walk the dog round. Recommend the Dogs Head pub in town, nice burgers/beers and very dog friendly.
Room was simple but warm, clean and comfortable with everything you would need for an overnight stay. Shower was excellent. Nice touch to have bottles of water in room. Walking distance to Bishops Stortford town centre. Reasonably priced.
The flat itself it’s spacious, good amenities, of course near public transport, town centre, shops, etc.
Communication with host was very good, we got some issue with the boiler in NY Eve, and we got very quick response and updates.
The guest house itself was very pretty and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was also very tasty and excellent value for money. The location is just outside of Bishops Stortford but very quiet and peaceful.
Beautiful location, lovely accommodation, stunning main hotel and grounds. The room was spacious and comfortable with a huge bed. Great bathroom although the shower had a tendency to run cold - good to wake you up!
The location of the apartment is great, just a short walk to Bishops Stortford Town Centre with great shops and restaurants. The apartment was warm and spacious.
