We have family at Catterick and Richmond is only a few minutes drive from there. We like the Station complex with the shops & cinema, the centre of Richmond around the market place. I recommend the Green Howards museum and the Georgian theatre has a great 1 hour tour for just £8. There is the castle to visit and a nice walk around the castle to try. There are plenty of shops, little cafes, an indoor market, lots of pubs and a variety of take-aways. The market pace is cobbled and some streets away from the centre and very steep and can be hard walking for elderly.

Loved the dramatic landscape of the castle and the river valley around the town. The centre is up a slight hill but parking available in the central market square and down by the river. Some public footpaths available to walk in the countryside around the town. The town gives perhaps a good mornings wandering but with a car you can easily access the beautiful dales.

Great market town, the Saturday market held in the cobbled square was in full swing and very well attended.
Richmond is convenient for the stunning North Yorkshire Dales.
Has its own ruined castle and the beautiful river Swale runs through Richmond, lots of independent shops and the most fabulous fish and chips are to be had from the shop in the middle of the square …they are cooked in dripping and were delicious.
Lovely town to visit

Lovely market town, lots of places to eat and drink, some cheap shops to rummage around, ate at Elixir for lunch, lovely food and huge portions. In the evening we ate in Sunitras, beautiful Thai food. Lovely pleasant place to stay for the weekend. We stayed at the Buck Inn, cheap and cheerful, lovely breakfast.
This is a cozy and charming row house in an excellent location. It's a very short walk to the center of town, and very quiet at night. It had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The back yard patio was a bonus -- it was a great place to sit and relax. We even ate a couple of dinners out there, which we enjoyed immensely. The second bathroom was another bonus we appreciated. The washer and dryer was a third bonus you don't always find in a rental.
We adored Richmond and if we ever go back, we will stay here again.
We had a lovely stay in this wonderful old hotel. It had been very well updated to retain all the old features and charm but to be warm and comfortable. It is in the centre of Richmond so very well located both for the town and surrounding area. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable and well equipped (especially liked the yellow duck in the bathroom! 😊). Breakfast was very good. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but it was within easy walking distance of other eateries.
We loved everything about it if we’re honest.
The room is amazing
The building is beautiful
The gentleman that greeted us (i believe his name is Richard) was so polite and a very nice person to speak too
The room is one of the cleanest hotel rooms I’ve stayed in and the decor is fantastic (We stayed in the Richmond suite)
The cake provided is delicious
When you look at the price and then the quality of the stay - it’s actually a bargain
We will 100% be staying here again
Hotel like comfort in a period quaint cottage. Thoughtful touches everywhere with local decorations. Lots of info on hand. Welcome basket was very welcome indeed! The shower was very powerful and the beds comfortable. Location superb with very short walk to town (steep though) and just by the riverside with Richmond's waterfalls. Very pretty town and a pretty cottage. Great value for money. 100% would recommend.
A really lovely hotel with very welcoming staff and set in a great location right on the market square. There were lots of nice little touches like the handwritten note in our room welcoming us, details of what to do in the area, great toiletries, a bath tray with a book reading frame and a small rubber duck, and even a wooden tic tac toe game in the room. Breakfast was included and was very good.
The guest room, actually turned out to be two rooms. Very comfortable, and a central location in Richmond (which is not a huge place). Staff were helpful and efficient. We booked a table and were very glad to have done so. Food was delicious and Richmond was busy, despite covid.
Richmond is a very pretty town, with good walking, a fine castle and a small market (at least on Saturdays).
So nice to stay on a working farm and see them in action. Very peaceful location. Lovely light and airy room. Jane and her team were very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of places to eat in nearby Richmond and an excellent location to see the Yorkshire Dales. My trip totally lived up to expectations in every respect.
The Mews was comfortable, clean with above average facilities available for our party. The keys were easy to collect and the host made us most welcome. It is sited in an ideal situation for visiting Richmond and the parking with discs did not pose any inconvenience as we were visiting other places too.
great location for exploring the town of Richmond, Yorkshire. Within walking distance of numerous restaurants and bars.
Great breakfast, with choice of main courses and cold buffet too.
Comfortable room with tea and coffee
Staff very helpful and pleasant
Met by the owner on arrival made us feel welcome from the start. The room had every thing we needed and was quiet on the back of the house. Five minutes walk into Richmond. Parking on the main road across from B&B. Superb breakfast in the morning.
bright clean and airy restaurant with rooms. immaculately clean and fresh. Great location for discovering North Yorkshire. Customer Service very good and professional service from the staff. Dinner and breakfast were delicious!
Location was perfect - central to Richmond and the Dales. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! Staff were friendly and helpful.
The location in Richmond is perfect, its just an incredible hotel, brilliant staff and excellent food, a true yorkshire gem and for sure we certainly be back.
Staff were great, location was beautiful, right out in the Yorkshire Dales. Good food, good beer. Room was spotless and newly fitted bathroom and shower etc
Rooms were clean and spacious and were just what we were after. Very short distance from Richmond. The staff were very helpful, but also left us to it.
