Shap Wells Hotel, hotel in Tebay

On the edge of the Lake District, Shap Wells offers spacious rooms with free Wi-Fi, many with countryside views. The games room has a small gym and snooker table.

Thank you for supper, the chef kindly put up a meal despite my late arrival, due to not spotting any signs of the main road. See the Red Squirrels in the morning was a bonus, my parents had been to the hotel on a coash trip and had remarked about the red squirels.

The Riverside, hotel in Tebay

In Kendal town center, the Riverside Hotel is a 17th-century building with a state-of-the-art recreation club. Rooms have river views, and Windermere and the Yorkshire Dales are a 15-minute drive...

The hotel is located alongside the Rive Kent and has the most lovely vibe because of it, even when overcast, rainy and cold. The Reception, breakfast and property staff were helpful, professional, accommodating and excellent to deal with. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean, well appointed and the heated towel rack is wonderful. The bed was comfortable and the bedding is very clean and of a good quality. The breakfast is a highlight ( the Chef made me porridge, no sugar, no cream, just plain hot porridge ) it's possibly the best breakfast overall at a hotel I've had in quite a while. Being in easy walking distance to Kendal high street, associated shopping and eateries, pubs, cafes, local transport, The Riverside makes for an ideal landing pad for visitors and business people alike. I'd love to return for another stay and spend more time in the district exploring the beautiful Cumbrian countryside, villages and towns. Worth noting: the local food, bakery and coffee adds to the daily charm of Kendal.

Appleby Castle, hotel in Tebay

Sitting next to the River Eden in the beautiful Eden Valley at the edge of the Lake District is the majestic Appleby Castle.

We stopped off for one night to break up the driving from N Scotland. What a fabulous place to stay a night. The atmosphere is fantastic. We came off-season and almost had a castle to ourselves. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Craig was great, very nice breakfast in a stately old room. We got to see the restored keep in the morning, they have done a great job with the museum and historical information.

Appleby Manor Hotel & Garden Spa, hotel in Tebay

Set in Eden Valley, the 19th century Appleby Manor Country House Hotel features an AA rosette winning restaurant which serves fresh, local produce.

This was our third time staying here. We just love the relaxing atmosphere, the excellent food in the restaurant. The staff are always very friendly and provide a great service. We always go on Valentines weekend and it is never too busy, it can actually feel very exclusive in this regard. The fantastic spa completes the experience

A perfect spot to enjoy the Lakes whilst only minutes from the M6. Quiet location and I had views into the countryside. Lovely fresh breakfast and perfect leaf tea. The hosts couldn’t have been better and went out of their way to help me.

I travel up and down the M6 to/from Hereford to Oban fairly regularly. It’s a long an arduous journey particularly in the winter. Westmorland is a godsend of a hotel almost exactly half way and is an oasis of comfort and warmth literally at the side of the motorway. I love the convenience, the comfort, the friendliness and the fact you feel you are on the moors and a million miles from a motorway. You could not wish for a better night stop to recharge your batteries. Be sure to ask about the secret road between north and south services especially for hotel customers- so you can easily access the hotel when travelling south (because hotel is on M6 North)

Tebay services…. what a fabulous cocooning experience!

Tebay services…. what a fabulous cocooning experience! I came off the M6 on a wild wet dark evening and stepped into simple luxury and contemporary cosiness - I left the next morning early, completely restored. I was journeying from the borders of scotland to the south coast and realised I’d run out of energy for the drive- an unplanned stop- but having experienced sitting by the open fire with my book after a delicious simple supper, slept in a divine comfortable bed, a nice hot bath -a delicious breakfast - i’ll make the time to stop here EVERY time i pass from now - special thanks for the gluten free and vegan options tebay!

There was a well stocked farm shop within walking distance, a great pub which was reasonably priced with a good menu. The food was delicious, it had an outdoor beer garden and lit up seating area, a play park for the kids, it played great music and had a good atmosphere, everyone was so friendly. Tebay has many local walks, it is in the perfect location, in between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales.

Fantastic value for money. Great breakfast and very helpful and friendly hosts. Brought our 4 month old puppy and the location for her was excellent. Children's park opposite the hotel was great for our 8 year old son. Location is good for the Yorkshire dales or the Lake District but expect to drive. Rooms are a very generous size, and facilities are excellent. We will definitely book this place up again when we visit the Lake District in the future!

This hotel is exceptionally conveniently located for travellers making the journey between central/southern England and central/Northern Scotland, who are seeking to break the journey up the M6. It is accessible from Tebay Services (North or South-bound). The restaurant serves good food and the staff are friendly and efficient. There is a cosy bar area for pre-dinner drinks or coffee.

The Old School is a great B&B for stop-over on a long drive. Clean room, nothing fancy and great breakfast. Cross Keys pub is a 5 minute walk so perfect for an evening meal. Fuel station in the village is great too, part of the Tebay Services family - diesel here a lot cheaper than at the motorway stop.
