The bed was a king size but it wasn't it was two beds put together the mattress was rock hard. No where for the partner to put her make up on. The bed was practically up against the wall.

So charming, it’s just as lovely as it seems. Get there early for dinner and enjoy the pub. We spent a happy evening there- eating wonderful food, doing bits and bobs, trying pints and playing cards. Room was comfy, plenty of parking and the breakfast was just as nice. The staff are an asset for sure.

Small market town that has essential shopping and even a family owned department store. There are many walks along the canal or small river that runs around the town. Visit Highclere ( the home of Downton Abbey) or just chill out in the surrounding countryside.

Newbury was a bit of a revelation.
Newbury was a bit of a revelation. To be honest all we needed was a place to eat as we had opted not to eat in the Hotel. There were plenty to choose from on the high street and we opted for a Lebanese which had beautiful food with good service. The high street itself was closed but we had a wander around and discovered what would be a very vibrant centre in the day time

We stayed two nights and that was exactly enough for a quick look around Newbury, with a visit next day to Highclere Castle, and a departure the next morning. We visited an art installation in the Corn Exchange. A six metre diameter model of the moon. Very peaceful viewing. However, there was almost nothing in Newbury which made us feel we needed more time, nor any reason to re-visit.
We ate in the Lodge Hotel on the Racecourse the first evening. The menu is very limited indeed, basically pizzas, burgers and chicken wings. Next evening we ate at the Swan Inn in Newtown, just south of Newbury. This was a very nice meal.
It is easy to get around Newbury because there are plenty of car parks in the town centre and the place is small enough to cover on foot.

I spent a pleasant few hours (4) in Newbury shopping and looking around. In the main Newbury offered the same old same old shops you see in every town centre. However, there was one nice department store which offered a good choice of clothing, shoes, cosmetics and a couple of boutique clothing shops offering reasonably priced different offerings but nothing high end.
We went for family weekend and everything in the hotel was good. Not all the rooms were as close as we would have liked but that caused no problems. The pool was great for the grandkids. There was plenty of seating in reception area. Breakfast was buffet with plenty of choice. My wife is coeliac and gluten free and the staff were really helpful to ensure there was no cross contamination. The one evening meal we had in the restaurant was good. Location close to M4 and Newbury was excellent.
Stayed at hotel as visiting Newbury races, the hotel is on the course, the staff were excellent, facilities fine for 2 nights, big bed, breakfast decent enough for the price. Food in the evening basic but filling enough. If you're visiting Newbury races and don't fancying travelling in the morning to or evening from the course this ideal, it does of course bump the price up on racedays but of course that is to be expected.
My wife and I, along with my parents, had a great stay at the Dolphin. The hotel is full of character and the staff was super friendly. We did not eat at the pub restaurant, but took advantage of their great beer selection. The bathrooms in both of our rooms appeared to be newly renovated and were very nice. The rest of the room was great as well, with decor seeming to have been recently updated.
It's a little gem tucked away just outside Newbury. A lovely, quaintly British pub and hotel.
The staff were amazing. I had booked.short notice.due to a change in circumstances but it felt like i had booked well in advance. I received a warm welcome upon arrival and i was promptly show to.my room and given clear directions on where all the facilites where.
Great golf course, helpful pro and helpful staff generally. Excellent value and exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was buffet style, very good English breakfast and good sausages (always the acid test of a breakfast and no skimping here). Hotel perhaps just slightly tired decor, but don;t be put off and was kept very clean
Carpets were dirty and although the room was big it was dated and there was no chair to go with the desk that was in the room plus the safe wasn’t working
If your only looking for a cheap place to lay your head then maybe
It is close to Newbury but in the countryside. It is a self-contained apartment, with microwave, 'fridge, toaster and cutlery and crockery. A large and varied amount of breakfast food including milk were provided.
