FAQs about hotels in Athens

Dynamic City With 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.

The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

We had an amazing 3-day stay in Athens at Phidias Hotel.

We had an amazing 3-day stay in Athens at Phidias Hotel. The staff were all so nice; Ornella welcomed us and helped us plan our stay even better. The hotel was in the perfect location, ideal for exploring, just a 10-minute walk to buses, taxis, and trains. We took a hop-on, hop-off tour to visit the main attractions and landmarks. On our first day, we had lunch just up the road from the hotel, and the food was truly amazing. That evening, we walked through the streets of Monastiraki and went to a rooftop bar suggested by a friend, where we enjoyed a beautiful view of the Acropolis—an unforgettable experience. On the second day, after our hop-on, hop-off tour, we spent some time shopping on Ermou Street, which I loved. Later, we had dinner at a wonderful restaurant recommended by a lovely local, and it did not disappoint! The food was authentic, delicious, and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff were always welcoming and lovely, adding to the charm of each meal. On the third day, we got up early and walked to the Acropolis at 7:30 a.m. to catch the sunrise as the gates opened, which was a breathtaking moment. Afterward, we wandered through Plaka, exploring all the beautiful shops. We also met some wonderful people selling handmade jewelry, which made the trip even more special. Transport was easy—getting around by train was smooth, and on our way back to the airport, we took a taxi with a driver named Janis, who was fantastic and even gave us tips for our next trip to Athens. Overall, it was a wonderful experience in a warm, welcoming city!

    Athens really surprised us.

Athens really surprised us. Initially it was a stop over on our way to Santorini, but we’re so happy we extended our stay. City is amazing to explore annd lots of roof top bars to venture to for a drink with a view! We also did a day at the beach and it was so lovely, amazingly clear waters and one of the best beaches I’ve been to! We didn’t rent a car, public transport was easy enough to navigate or if you’re already in the city, just walk and explore. Would recommend 360 rooftop bar and bolivar beach bar.

A free walking tour organised via Guru was informative and helpful in giving us insight to what to go back to see. The Acropolis and museum an absolute must. Book tickets on line to save queueing time. Multiple site tickets available which could be cost effective if you stay long enough to facilitate visits to all 5 sites Plaka is super area to eat and shop. The metro is easy to use and has direct access to the airport, 70 minutes travel time approx 9 euros. Uber available and cheaper than regular yellow taxis. Always secure journey price before travelling if using regular taxi.

Fantastic location, easy walking to all Athens has to offer! Magnificent view of Acropolis from balcony. Lots of little extras such as wine, ouzo and sunscreen provided. Stelios also provided fantastic communication from the beginning of the booking and organised for John the taxi driver to pick us up from airport for 50€. John gave us wonderful information about Greece, and where to go, and Stelios also provided recommendations… we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days in Athens and would definitely 😃recommend the apartment.

Good side view of the Acropolis from our balcony, but the best view is from the roof terrace open all day and night - also where you go for breakfast which is very nice. The staff are really helpful and the hotel is in a brilliant location for the main archaeological sites and the acropolis museum. We would definitely stay here again - it was the most expensive of all the hotels we stayed in during our trip around Greece but the we'd expect to pay more in the city centre and so close to the Parthenon.

The location of Phaedra is perfect, on the edge of the Plaka district, within easy walking distance of many of Athens' best attractions. 10minutes walk from Syntagma square where the metro and bus from the airport stops. The view from the rooftop is amazing, perfect for having your own sundowner there (note, there is no bar at the top so you have to take your own drinks/snacks). The staff were very friendly and helpful.
