Splendid Hotel Taormina, hotel in Taormina

Tucked into rocks and mountains, Splendid overlooks the Ionian Sea and the Calabrian coast, a short walk from Taormina’s picturesque town center and 3-minute walk from Corso Umberto main street.

We had a significant delay in our arrival due to our airplane issues. So we did not arrive at the hotel until 2 in the morning and there was a clerk there 24/7 to check us in. All of the staff was wonderful. The hotel was spotless and the breakfast was an amazing selection with breathtaking views.

Hotel Villa Diodoro, hotel in Taormina

Hotel Villa Diodoro features a hillside position and an outdoor pool with panoramic sea views, a 5-minute walk from the historical center of Taormina.

Old style hotel with great views over the sea and to Mt Etna, including from the breakfast/dining room. Close to the old town for easy access but just outside so it's quiet (okay, some wave sounds). Great terrace for afternoon coffee or apero. If you're looking for a modern hotel, this isn't your hotel. But if you're looking for old world charm, it fits the bill.

No food available for lunch. Had dinner there. Our orders were delivered less than 10 minutes after ordered and beautifully presented on the plate. Service was so fast the meals must have already been prepared and under a heat lamp for a while. Rabbit was dry. Having the shuttle was a definite bonus. Easy access and parking at hotel.

This is the hotel's claim "The Taormina Garden Hotel is a small family hotel where the Guest is a member of the family", that fits perfectly! FAQs about hotels in Taormina

The Jewel in the Sicilian Crown

As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza drenched with vibrant pink blossoms, you might have to pinch yourself. The amazing location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.

But wait, there's more. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the largely intact Greek Theater has amazing views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Great summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars feature live music.

Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, with a clock tower and church overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.

A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the center of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the southwest, there's a long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and to the north is the bay by Mazzaró.

As you'd expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there's no shortage of places to stay in Taormina on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, centrally located apartments and luxury B&Bs.

The city/village of Taormina was great for sightseeing.

The city/village of Taormina was great for sightseeing. We visited the ancient amphitheater, and enjoyed hiking in the area. There were an abundance of good shops and restaurants to visit. The City public park was a wonderful mix of trees and walking paths with some amazing “follies” - odd and artistic small buildings, built to entertain the eye.

The location of Taormina looking down to the coast is very beautiful. There was plenty to explore for a few days e.g. the Ancient Theatre, the beach at Isola Bella within walking distance or by cable car. For us the highlight was a visit to the hilltop village of Castelmola which provided fantastic views, including snow capped Mount Etna. The main drawback of Taormina is the fact it is rather crowded even in late April when we visited. Also there are too many shops selling the same tourist tat.

The stand-out things to visit are the Greek theatre, public gardens, and the nice-looking buildings on the main street. A local visit to the even higher village of Castelmola (see picture) gives great views down on to Taormina, Etna and the coast. Local buses run there, or the hike is worthwhile. If you are using public transport, then Taormina isn't a great place to use as a base, due to its position up a hill, but it is certainly worth a couple of days. Buses are cheap but the information is difficult to come by, and they are not particularly frequent.

Stunning Taormina, full of heartbreaking corners and history. Our enthusiasm had to face the reality of a pricy place. Disappointment in meeting insisting members of staff from the hospitality field, who sometimes looked desperately in need of customers for their restaurants, bars, boat trips. Etc..Parking is very expensive but we appreciated the free shuttle service to the city center.

Taormina has beautiful views with pretty venitian buildings, very historical. The food is delicious, as it's a prime tourist location the price of dining out does reflect this. The service in restaurants is good, I found staff to be friendly. The bus station at Interbus terminal is in easy walking distance and it's a short bus ride to Giuardini Naxos beach which is sandy. Waiting times for buses can be long if you miss the bus. Cost of one way ticket for 3 people just under 6 euros. The cost of the journey on bus from Taormina to Catania airport is cheap, 21 Euros for 3 people. Cost of a taxi from the airport to Taormina is a bit expensive at 100 euros, but you can get the interbus which is a cheaper option but will take longer. Our journey by Taxi to Valentina B&B was around 1 hour and was arranged by the lovely lost Loredana at Valentina B&B. Our driver Giuseppe was polite , friendly and provided lots of tips about the location and places to eat etc. Try the paste marandela Sicilian cookies, almond flavour is delicious, also the Arancini, a good savoury snack filled with rice with different fillings. Try the tomato & veg one, delicious.Lucios restaurant was fantastic, staff friendly. And Di foesteria, opposite Valentina B&B where you can have breakfast or brunch, very good quality and nice staff.

Incredible property, right next to San Domenico luxury hotel featured in White Lotus but a fraction of the price. truly a home away from home, so well appointed with everything you would need if not eating out. Million dollar views across to Etna from the terrace and out to sea. Tranquil spot in Taormina but within easy walking access to great restaurants, parking, sight seeing spots, and cable car to Isola Bella. Villa Mabel is ideally situated in Taormina positioned almost exactly in the centre of the old town. It is a lovely, characterful, quirky old house with views over some of the old town and lovely ones of the sea. I will always prefer to stay in this style of place over the boring uniformity of chain hotels The staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed Taormina and the villa so much that I extended my stay for another night. However those who like the known deliverables of chain hotels might not appreciate its unique character.

The entire stay was miserable. From the check in to stepping into the tiniest, pest invaded dirtiest room. Phones not working nor Wi-Fi. In general No requests could be accommodated , from a simple breakfast order to cleaning the room to fixing the phone. The pictures online definitely gives it more credit then in REal life. The staff was not friendly in solving any issues nor showed any interest in resolving any of my concerns. Worst “5 star” service and hotel ever visited.

Pleasent apartment with great secure parking. Great showers, great heating (we stayed in the off-season), and overall one of the best locations right off the center strip in Taormina. Fast internet for those who work from home, and generally a place with good living space. A nice modern apartment where it's feels like it's a boutique hotel, but doesn't lose its charm. Lovely hotel in a great location, short walk to Taormina’s main streets, very close to the funicular and to the bus station. Best part was the lovely helpful staff. Would stay here again without hesitation.
