FAQs about hotels in Sorrento

Colorful and Captivating

Overlooking the Bay of Naples and mount Vesuvius, Sorrento is a colorful town in Campania. According to legend, it was the land of the sirens that had the power to enchant with their singing.

The town of Sorrento has gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and a wide variety of restaurants, shops and cafés. Built around the 11th century, the Romanesque Cathedral of Sorrento is the city’s most important landmark. The charming Bell Tower with the beautiful majolica clock is the first thing you notice.

The picturesque harbor of Marina Grande has some of the best restaurants in the city. Wander around during sunset and you'll see fishermen cleaning their nets. Marina Piccola is the place to catch a ferry to Capri, Amalfi and Naples.

Born in a garden of lemon and oranges, the traditional yellow liquor limoncello is a unique aperitif or digestive drink. The mediterranean climate of Sorrento helps in the production of this famous refreshment.

Naples International Airport is located 3 miles from the Capodichino district of Naples and about 18 miles from Sorrento. You can stay in one of the Sorrento hotels, B&Bs and pensions with Booking.com.

The town is clearly a favourite tourist destination; at times it was heaving, so unless you love the crowds, I'd avoid peak summer! It was wonderful just to walk around the town, bars/restaurants/hotels aplenty, but great to get away from it all by an hour+ walk to a more secluded couple of beaches. Our boat trip to Positano and Amalfi was a highlight; we chose the more expensive 12-passenger option with an informative, friendly guide and experienced skipper; we couldn't face being one of many on one of the bigger boats, but each to their own. A guided hike along part of the Path of the Gods was fabulous too. It was very overcast, so the views weren't so spectacular for us, but it was still a magical experience. Again, pick your times as it can be more like the 'highway of the Gods' as our guide suggested. It was a more expensive holiday than I had first planned, but we went with it, enjoying the heat, the sunshine, the friendly people, the great Mediterranean food and drink.

Sorrento provides an excellent water gateway to the Amalfi...

Sorrento provides an excellent water gateway to the Amalfi coast, Capri, Ischia and Naples as well as land access to the Archeological sites in the area. Road access to Naples airport has lots of traffic and delays to the airport can cost you with missing your flight. Sorrento setting is beautiful but the center is extremely touristy, a common issue with many picturesque towns and villages in Europe but it is a reasonable alternative to staying in Naples. There is a train to Naples that stops at various points along the way from Sorrento but we didn’t use it. Hotels on the hills above the town with their magnificent views are somewhat isolated from the center and are not easily accessible without an expensive taxi or a frequently running hotel-provided shuttle. But as long as you understand the issues of getting around a stay in Sorrento can be very enjoyable.

Great town with lots of local shops, restaurants and bars. Many streets are car free that allows for plenty of walking room. Town is alive throughout the day / evening- make it a place you want to be. Access to many additional activities via sea such as ferries and tours.

We loved Sorrento, especially the old town with all the lovely shops and little alleyways. Sorrento is quite small when your accomodation is located in the old town, everything will be less than a 8 minute walk away, and it is very easy to get around. The food was incredible, we recommend Semola Pasta, Radical for a nice breakfast, Bellevue Sirene for a romantic dinner in front of an unbeatable ocean view. For ice cream we recommend Raki. Food wise in Sorrento you can't go wrong, truffle pasta, pizza and gelato are available! The town itself is like a postcard. You will see lemon trees, bougainvilliers and orange trees in every corner. May/early June is a good time to visit, otherwise with the heat it becomes less enjoyable.

Perfect location which is right near the bus/train station (great for day trips to Amalfi coast) and the property was a 5 min walk to the main Sorrento strip. The property itself was clean, great view of Sorrento and the best hosts that made our first time in Italy memorable. The hosts told us about the best restaurants and areas to visit. By far our favourite place we stayed in Italy. The host Anna and her family were amazing providing everything we needed and more! The breakfast here was amazing and we deeply regret not opting for dinner as well. The house itself is amazing with nice comfy rooms with air conditioning and well-stocked fridges. Sosò is in a perfect quiet location and only takes 15 minutes to walk to the centre or a 5-minute walk from some of the best restaurants and nice bars Sorento.

Regarding the apartment, all was superclean and designed with an excellent taste, bathroom included. The owner is a very nice lady who helped us with all we needed. Location - outside the city, so it was quiet, but a very short walk to get there. Marianna who worked in the breakfast area was very personable and kind. Pasquale at the front desk was very helpful with recommendations for tours and restaurants. The shower was large and had good water pressure - hard to find in Italy! Hotel was clean and we liked having a beach right there. (The beach is rocky - typical for Sorrento. You will want rubber water shoes!)

This was the best hotel we have stayed at in the past 6 weeks travelling through Turkey, Greece, and Italy. The simplicity of leaving our car with them for the 4 days we stayed and let the free shuttle bus from the hotel to take us to the centre of town and main train terminal was great. Staff was awesome and cleanliness was great too. Probably will never come back to Sorrento but I would highly recommend this hotel to any future travellers. Pat
