Siem Reap is wonderful: a unique place and one of the most...
Siem Reap is wonderful: a unique place and one of the most special in the world. It has plenty of bars and restaurants and a lovely riverside area. (The variety and quality of food is among the best I’ve experienced in Southeast Asia) It’s also very bike-friendly, with many dedicated cycle lanes (one extending pretty well all the way to Angkor Wat.) The Angkor Wat archeological park is amazing. If you have time, my advice is to go for the seven-day pass valid for a month. That way, you can spend a day or half day at Angkor, break it up with time in Siem Reap, and instead of suffering “temple-fatigue,” from trying to see too much in too short a time, really appreciate how special the place is. And, for me, the best way to see it is by bicycle. The terrain is flat. The roads are (mostly) good and quiet, and there are many cycle lanes. There’s plenty of cycle hire places in the area. I used Bayon MTB Project. The man who runs it is real bike enthusiast and is always working on maintaining the machines, which, in consequence are in very good condition. If, while in some remote part of Angkor (or anywhere else) you should have a puncture or other problem with your bike, he’ll come to you to fix things. He and his wife also do a lot of work with children in the area. Basically, then, good people, good bikes, good prices and great service.Guest review byDELWYNUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I love nature / gardens so really enjoyed what was on offer around Siem Reap. Highlights were the Botanical Gardens, Butterfly Paradise, Angkor Silk Farm, walking along the river, tuk tuk rides into the countryside. Siem Reap is an ideal place for those who are interested in culture, history and architecture. Even though the temples are in ruins they are magnificent. The town itself is tiny, but has a few bars, restaurants and shops. It’s incredibly inexpensive, finding places that have .50 cent draft beers was wild. The people are incredibly friendly, hospitable, and genuinely work hard to meet your expectations. Breakfast was a small feast every morning - a huge selection.
