FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, the Big Easy is the beating heart of the Deep South.

Dance down Bourbon Street, where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars mixed with more colorful nightlife and entertainment venues. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by St. Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD (downtown) skyscrapers and the Louisiana Superdome. Booking.com has several hotels nearby, including some on Canal Street, where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou.

I stayed in NOLA 6 days and felt like it was too short, don't get me wrong we did almost everything that's there to do, plantation tour, we ate lots of different beignets, po'boys, muffuletta, gumbo, jambalaya, trip in the steamboat natchez through the Mississippi, we listen to jazz at the famous conservation hall, walk through bourbon street, watched street performers, bought art on Sunday from the Jackson square artists, Sunday church at the famous The St. Louis Cathedral, we also visit the aquarium, the insectarium, WWII museum, the garden district I mean our schedule was packed!!! You need great stamina, and walking shoes the people the food, the culture the houses I don't know which one we liked the best, it was more like a mix of everything it is such a magical and lovely place! 100000% recommended for any taste, age group, and everything there is something for anyone! Honestly I can't wait to go back again!!

We stayed in the French Quater, which was perfect. I really enjoyed the steam boat trip and the Oak Alley plantation. We did do the plantation ourselves and the Steam Boat as it is cheaper to do online.

NOLA comes with superb french district night-out.

NOLA comes with superb french district night-out. Restaurants and clubs are chock-full with jazz bands all night long. Prices aren't economical, but it's worth spending few nights in the vintage district as it is like taking a journey to the past with timeless architectural features. Don't miss out a daily tour in the swamp just reasonable miles off the city or a plantation tour. Both come with impressive natural flora and fauna as well as awareness of recent history raising plenty of questions.

    In-town for Jazz Festival (May 2-7, 2024).

In-town for Jazz Festival (May 2-7, 2024). Highly recommend this event. Enjoyed NOLA overall. Felt safe and comfortable at all hours of day and night. Friendly people. Good southern hospitality. The French Quarter has a lot to offer. Almost continuous music by world-class musicians both on the street and inside venues. Frenchman's Street is a good music destination, in many ways better than Bourbon Street. Most venues have no cover-charge. Jackson Square is very historic and well maintained, as is the RC Cathedral at the square. Countless excellent restaurants. City is very walkable and fairly easy to get around in. Washington Square and Armstrong Park are both nice quiet and safe refuges from the hustle and action of the Quarter.

Was here for Mardi Gras, so the location is excellent! Parades pass right by hotel on St. Charles, quick walk to French Quarter and not too bad a walk to the Garden District, or anywhere in downtown. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, room had refrigerator, bed was very comfortable, room was sizable. They sell tickets to the stands out front (we didn't buy any) so that is convenient. Desk clerks were very nice and friendly, so were the housekeepers and maintenance and security staff we encountered.

You will definitely feel safe. Great staff managed the desk so we could come and go all night. It's in the old French Quarter so the decor matches, in this part of the city the historical society blocks hotels like this one from updating too much. So your bathroom facilities may look a little dated your room is the size they were in the 1800s. I LOVE it!!! We come to the city to play and enjoy the old feel of staying in the old French Quarter this place is just what we love about New Orleans

Charming boutique hotel in a perfect location in the Quarter. Close to Esplanade Ave and quiet… away from the upper quarter bustle. Lovely and friendly front desk staff. I used to live in the French Quarter, so I’m visiting I don’t want to stay in a cookie cutter hotel. Via Convento was another perfect stay in one of my favorite cities. If you’re looking for turn down service and a chocolate on your pillow, this is not your place. If you want true old New Orleans charm… Give it a try.

The property is in a very central location, making it easy to get to the French quarter or the Garden District by foot. The staff were extremely friendly and the units themselves were very nice and clean! Being able to use a code for our unit was a big plus so we didn’t have to deal with a physical key for such a large group. All of our rooms had a bag of coffee which was a nice touch for the mornings, but there is a very good coffee shop right next to the hotel - Cafe Bon Ami.

The location, staff, breakfast and facility are the best. All the staff are very friendly and ready to help with anything. The room was very spacious with a kitchenette. The hot breakfast was very generous. check-in and check out was quick. If you plan to take a cruise, the location is the best for both walking distance to the French Quarter and walking distance to the cruise port. It is in a very safe and quiet area. One the best hotels that we have ever stayed.

The hotel was very quaint and lovely. The rooms were bright and clean. Loved the lobby area and front outside sitting area. Breakfast was bagels, hard boiled eggs, coffee, cereal, muffins. Fine for me. Trolly was right in front of the hotel. $3 for an all day pass to Bourbon Street and French Quarter. I loved being out of French Quarter. Garden District is so pretty. I'd stay there again. Very easy to get an Uber and right next door to a fabulous restaurant.

Place D'Armes is a wonderful hotel tucked away in the heart of the French Quarter. We stayed in an interior room and it was completely quiet. So we slept well. The staff were helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our stay went well. It is housed in a very old building which added to its charm. If/when I get to come back to New Orleans, I will stay here again.

Location was excellent for the economic trolley car to and from French quarter. Fresh water with lemons in dispenser in lobby as well as fresh popped popcorn was a nice touch. Room was veery clean and spacious and bed and pillows extremely comfortable. As an aside though, in general, the people of New Orleans are very accommodating, friendly and respectful.

I don’t think we could have chosen better location. Three blocks from the Bourbon Street this hotel provides excellent base for exploring French Quarter or Garden District by the St. Charles streetcar. In the very city center it provides a quiet shelter from the hassle of Bourbon street. Highly recommended.

If you want to have a safe stay in New Orleans, that's the place to go. We had a gorgeous room and the location is awesome. You're in the heart of the French Quarter. To make sure no bad luck happens to your car during night time, use the parking at Place D'Armes offered by the hotel for like 42$ a day.

The location was really great. We had a blast visiting New Orleans. Being close to Canal street while at the Sonder, we were able to quickly access the RTA trolley system and also were close enough to the French Quarter to walk there and back. Beautiful and clean location. Would definetely visit again.
