FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, the Big Easy is the beating heart of the Deep South.

Dance down Bourbon Street, where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars mixed with more colorful nightlife and entertainment venues. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by St. Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD (downtown) skyscrapers and the Louisiana Superdome. Booking.com has several hotels nearby, including some on Canal Street, where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou.

We suggest research the time you go, weekends felt very unsafe so be very careful if you look like tourist or stand out. Probably most unsafe Ive felt away before. Mid week seemed better environment. Music and food in surrounding areas was lovely and good artwork. Avoid booking anywhere near Bourbon street, as its hideous. Frenchman street has lovely art market and better music and vibe in evening but suggest taxi , do not walk or you will likely get into trouble. Its fruitful of culture but rough around the edges which I suppose gives its nature. 3 nights is more than ample.

Like everywhere else, New Orleans is equally expensive.

Like everywhere else, New Orleans is equally expensive. Definitely a lot to look at and take in. Lots going on. Large Police presence. Felt safe. If you donʻt like large crowds, or loud music, this place is not for you. It was enjoyable, with lots of history.

The best restaurants are NOT in the French Quarter.

The best restaurants are NOT in the French Quarter. Go to Magazine Street. Also, don’t get taken in by the street hustle regarding “where you got your shoes”. Several random hustlers doing it. My husband was suckered and before he knew it, they had poured a thick soap or some other substance on his sneakers. Had to walk around all day with stains on his shoes until we washed them later. Anyway, Bourbon Street is literally an open sewer so one walk through is more than enough. The WWII museum is incredible. It’s a must-see. Plantation tours were vastly different. Oak Alley seemed to glorify the ways of the old south, emphasizing the grandeur of the house, offering mint juleps, etc. The Whitney Plantation was an accurate and heart wrenching depiction of what enslaved people endured. I wish I could have taken the admission I paid to Oak Alley and given it to Whitney!

NOLA is an Interesting and fun place to explore!

NOLA is an Interesting and fun place to explore! I've been there three times and still haven't seen everything I wanted to. Check out the Saenger for evening shows, buy your tickets early! Head toward the Aquarium and the adjacent mall for any shopping needs. Buy a Jazzy Pass to get around using streetcars, ferries and busses.

I love the city of New Orleans.

I love the city of New Orleans. The people are friendly, and the music is great. Then don't let me forget to mention the food. Everything was good even Panda Express taste better than mine from back home (Tennessee) lol. I didn't feel uneasy there of course I was watching my surroundings when out. In my opinion it's not as bad as people make it seem. I'm a single female who traveled solo to meet some friends. I felt just fine walking around by myself before I met up with everyone else.

Do the ghost tour & swamp tour.

Do the ghost tour & swamp tour. Listen to the locals when they tell you were the best places to eat specific food is. They're always 10/10. I would come back just to do brunch at Ruby Slipper again. The people of New Orleans are the salt of the earth and their kindness is infectious even to us often cold northerners.

The hotel met all our basic needs, was in a great central location. Felt safe with the staff around and security guards. Right near the st.Charles street cart. And not a far walk into the garden district. 25 min walk to the French quarter and Mississippi River. Rooms were good size, beds were comfy and clean. Was nice they had coffee and tea at all times. And some free options for breakfast, juices, milk, cereal and hot water. Staff was nice and helpful. Pool was great. And nice outdoor courtyard area.

Beautiful common areas and privacy curtains and charging sockets on bed - also lockers that are opened by keycard so very easy to use! About 10 mins from French quarter and safe to walk to it even at night. Staff were lovely and even gave tips for exploring New Orleans! Shared bathrooms but individual rooms with locks so felt more like a en suite! Also not far from trolley stop for the garden district.

The location was excellent, very close to transportation, the French Quarter and all the New Orleans' tourist spots. The staff was very helpful, the hotel and room was very clean and exactly as advertised. The breakfast was good, if not special, with hot and cold choices as well as 24/7 coffee. The Concierge gave us a thorough rundown of the city and sites while we waited for our room.

The hotel is really close to the city center and also the French Quarter (the most touristic area in New Orleans). It is also just a couple of blocks from a supermarket (Rouses), where we can buy almost anything we need regarding food and hygiene items. Bed and pillows were really comfortable at this room. Having a mini fridge in the room as well as a microwave was really useful.

The hotel was very nice and reasonably priced for downtown New Orleans. I always felt safe. Breakfast was well-stocked and on time. Better than most free hotel breakfasts. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. I really have no complaints about this hotel; and would stay there again. Within walking distance to (1-2 miles....) to convention center and the French Quarter.

This place is by far the best place I have stayed near the French Quarter. The parking is cheaper than most facilities at $28/day and the garage/hotel elevators and doors are only accessible by door key so I felt safe. They have complimentary breakfast and afternoon drinks. I wish we were able to stay longer but will definitely be back.
