It was my second time staying here. I visit the town because a friend lives there.
Before my trip, I kept talking to him to plan ahead and find good places to go out to, like pubs. Since it's England, we thought we should find a place serving shepherd's pie. We both barely found a place in a nearby town, serving vegan shepherd's pie. We even asked them if they can make the original version, which contains mutton. They replied saying the menu will have changed by that time.
I told this to the staff at The Rectory via direct messages, they confirmed that they haven't seen shepherd's pie around either, then the manager told me the chef will make the dish just for me and my friend!
The same "hunt" happened regarding cottage pie (that one is made with beef) but the one pub we could find, serving vegan cottage pie in a nearby town, simply agreed to make us the non-vegan version.
Back to The Rectory: Their chef made us portions that were about twice the size of the aforementioned cottage pie from the neighboring town. And it cost us much less than we expected, about half of what we thought we'd pay. We thought we could at least leave a tip for the favor, but no!

The only experience which was pleasant was having Kevin serve us at dinner and then again for afternoon tea the following day. All other staff were rude and unpleasant.

Cheshire.
We chose it for a dog friendly stay and the accommodation was most acceptable.
Both of us and our dog were made most welcome.

Staff were very welcoming and always very helpful.
Staff were very welcoming and always very helpful. Good choice of food at breakfast, with an adequate, but limited choice for dinner.
The room was very good with a large en-suite bathroom. The bath had a cracked plastic side panel and some of the tiling needed re-grouting, but it was all very clean with lots of shelf space.

On being greeted we were shown to our room which was away from the Inn with an outside door. The door was covered with spiders and cob webs, not a good start. On the inside the outside door lock could have been more secure. The bedroom was just about acceptable but I would want to stay in it again, the bathroom was poor to say the least needed a good update as I don't think a good clean would make much difference, poor lighting, old and a far bit of mould around the bath and on the shower hose! The staff were very friendly and the food was ok, really good but I dont' know what the condition of kitchen was like, was it clean?
