The Crown and Anchor is off the beaten path and a wonderful place to get away. We drove many narrow, winding roads to find it (part of the adventure for us!). Our room was larger than we expected, beautifully decorated, and comfortable, with a king-sized bed and attached bathroom. We enjoyed lunch in the Crown's pub on the day we arrived, and the breakfast the next morning was quite good. We also enjoyed driving to nearby Hungerford for a walk along the canal and dinner at the Amore Italian restaurant.

The bed was a king size but it wasn't it was two beds put together the mattress was rock hard. No where for the partner to put her make up on. The bed was practically up against the wall.

So charming, it’s just as lovely as it seems. Get there early for dinner and enjoy the pub. We spent a happy evening there- eating wonderful food, doing bits and bobs, trying pints and playing cards. Room was comfy, plenty of parking and the breakfast was just as nice. The staff are an asset for sure.

Location is great and you have access to a parking for free.
The room itself was comfortable. The shower was in the bath which is always difficult and concerning when you are older
The bar area was very basic and had little or no comfortable seating.
Dinner was fairly good. Breakfast was again ok. They only had cooked food in offer. No cereals were available. Restaurant seating could have been more comfortable.
Location was good. Lovely location in summer sitting beside the river would be very good.

The cottage was beautiful.
The cottage was beautiful. It was fully equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need for your break. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. I will definitely stay there again.

The hotel with the canal and being able to walk along the canal. We didn’t see much else of Kintbury only when driving as we were on our way one day to Highclere which is only 28 mins away. Another day hungerford and then Blenheim Palace.

If you want a peaceful spot to stop & enjoy the canal & the beautiful nature that Wiltshire & the surrounding counties provides, this is absolutely the place for you. It's sleepy & relaxing with lovely canal walks & friendly locals to tell you all the best kept secrets of the area. You'll need a car if you want to visit local towns with more shops & amenities or hop on a train at their little railway station. This village isn't somewhere to be busy that's for sure which is exactly what we were looking for. It took ten minutes to visit the fantastic antique shops of Hungerford by car & about fifteen minutes to visit the lovely market town of Marlborough. Great spot right in the middle of lots of fantastic places!

It is a pretty little place.
It is a pretty little place. The canal was interesting and well-used by barges. We ate in the hotel where we stayed and generally the food was good to very good. We did not really explore Kintbury itself as we wanted to go to nearby places like Avebury and Newbury. We won't be going back as there was not enough to do in the place itself and the hotel room was cold and gloomy.
The room was full of character which you don’t get with the chain hotels. It was spacious and had nice teas and coffee etc. The staff went out of their way to help us when we were going through a very difficult and sad time. I can’t thank them enough for their kindness and generosity. The breakfast was delicious and we looked out onto a beautiful garden and the river. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
The hotel was lovely, beautifully situated and the room was stunning. I think the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We also had breakfast each morning which was also really nice. We chose this hotel because of it's proximity to other sights but if we to ever go back down that way again we would definitely choose to stay here .
Beautiful little cottage in a the stunning village of Kintbury.
We did not want to go home as the cottage was a good base for walking and exploring the surrounding areas.
Very clean and well presented with all the comforts.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Will have to do a trip back to the UK just to stay there again 🥰
The location was excellent. Kintbury is a lovely village close to beautiful walks and several market towns and historic sites. The hosts are very nice and welcoming. The check in and out is well organised and very convenient. Essentials are almost on the doorstep with a convenience store around the corner.
Staff were so friendly and welcoming - in a warm way, not overbearing like at chain hotels!
The location was perfect, we enjoyed lovely walks along the canal. Highlight for me was the private patio / deck area - we spent the evening drinking wine and watching the ducks swim by :)
An amazing hotel with a brilliant pub/restaurant. We loved our room which was spotlessly clean and very luxurious. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was delicious and service exceptional.
The lovely young and enthusiastic, if a little inexperienced staff are the redeeming feature at this tired and worn hotel. Has the potential to be great but the friendly and helpful staff are being let down by the management. Good breakfast, but evening meal was simply dire.
The room was just beautiful - spacious and warm and with an amazing peaceful view. One of the most comfortable hotel rooms I’ve probably ever stayed in at this price point. Also, completely dog-friendly throughout which meant that our pup also had a wonderful time.
Location is great (close to the railway station, surrounded by canals and green)
Cool private terrace with in front of the canal
Amazing garden!
Staff is very friendly
Pet friendly hotel
Food was great (especially on Sunday)
Young staff very pleasant and helpful.
Hotel located on edge river. Had room with French doors leading to river edge.
Food cooked well and hot. Lovely pub garden.
Hotel ideal for visiting Highclere.
