Historic center was vibrant and scenic. Enjoyed visiting the Basilica as well as the magnificent Church of the Franciscans and the colorful architecture and plazas. Enjoyed the chocolate tasting at Mundo, delicious traditional Andean cuisine at Runa Tulpa Andina and excellent continental cuisine at La Vid in the Archbishop's Palace. There was 360 degree view of city from the Statue of the Virgin Panecillo at top of Quito. A major highlight was the tour of the Capilla del Hombre and the home of the artist, Oswaldo Guayasamin.

Due to current political issues in Ecuador, we were a little apprehensive about making the trip. However, only minutes after we landed in Quito we fell in love. The airport is amazingly clean and has all the amenities you would want. Quito, the La Carolina area, was extremely clean and very secure. The shopping was fantastic and there were tons of restaurants to choose from. All that said, we were most surprised by how reasonably priced everything was.
Also, a lot of bars do not take credit cards. Ecuador uses the American dollar, so have some on hand so you don't have an awkward experience.
We would definitely make the trip again.

We were just there one night to experience the city having spent a few nights in the mountains near Pifo.
Loved the crazy city - beautiful architecture. Lots of security/police presence which made it feel safe. My partner was unwell so I explored the city solo - I was approached by a policeman who gave me a map and ensured I was safe/aware of where to walk etc.
It is easy to travel by foot. I would have liked longer but feel 2-3 nights would have been plenty.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito.
We stayed 2 nights in Quito. We had one full day in Quito, which was not enough. We happened to be there during Carnivale. We took a cab to the Basilica and then walked to Independance square to observe the celebration. Later we had a great meal in the nearby hall.

I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito.
I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito. A pickpocket stole my wallet and I lost USD 200. The police didn't seem to care and most couldn't speak English. Every single day I was harassed by beggars, some of whom were very aggressive. I didn't feel safe in Quito and became paranoid. I couldn't wait to leave. I would NEVER return to Ecuador and probably not any other country in South America. There is a nationwide state of emergency now, and it's very dangerous. I advise my fellow Americans to avoid Ecuador like the plague unless you go straight to the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador is by far the worst country I've ever been to and I've traveled all over the world.

It's an old city, with lots of history and historical buildings. Many museums, often free. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the climate is excellent.
Most of the people I met were friendly and willing to help a confused stranger. There are some beggars, and some unsavory areas, as with any sizable city.
I highly recommend visiting Wikiri Sapoparque if you're an animal lover. It's a great and unique experience.
My husband and I sincerely loved our stay at Kinde House! Eduardo was very welcoming and made check-in/check-out easy. He was accommodating to our needs and gave us recommendations for places to see in the city. If we had questions, he was prompt in responding via WhatsApp. The location is perfect for exploring Quito Old Town by foot, taxi, or Uber. We slept well and it was quiet considering it's proximity to the city. The breakfast each morning was exquisite and we looked forward to it each day!
Really great staff. Yale is a star!! We traveled through Peru and Ecuador and this hotel was the most welcoming with the best customer service. Yale arranged a Middle of World Monument tour, map with directions to orient ourselves and a really great lunch recommendation! Our drivers from airport and the tour were personable as well. Also, excellent location easily within walking distance of all the major sites in the historical district. As the name suggests this is a friendly chill hotel.
A lovely character filled hotel. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. Daniele was so informative and helpful. Nothing was a problem. The room was comfortable and everything was very clean. There was a delicious breakfast available for $4pp. The location was fabulous being just a short walk to the old town. Daniele recommended the restaurant just a few doors down where we had a delicious traditional Ecuadorian lunch. We were so pleased that we chose Casa CarpeDM for our stay in Quito.
I spent 3 nights at Latinos Brothers House and I felt so welcome in Ecuador. The guys Octavio and Oskar have been the absolute hosts, friends. The guys showed us around the city of Quito and invited us to many parties. On the last night we lit a fire on their beautiful terrace and played music and had a great time. The hostel is super central and across the street has the market and mini markets.
The hostel was decorated with love and always had hot water.
An absolutely recommendable hostel.
Great view, excellent breakfast and dinner (not the cheapest dinner but great food - the potato soup was outstanding). Beautiful decorations - like a mini art gallery.
The hotel is high on the hill so walking up from the old city, while not very far, was quite strenuous. But the view made it worthwhile.
Highly recommend to use one of the free walking tours (we booked online through Free Walking Tour Ecuador and the guide was excellent) to see the historic city area.
Perfect location to walk to restaurants, Old Town and other historic sites. Very welcoming, personable helpful staff. Our room was thoroughly cleaned every day, and fresh food provided for breakfast every day, including a fresh loaf of bread! Apartments are spacious, nicely furnished, comfortable beds and living room space. I highly recommend this hotel for those wishing something more than just an average hotel, very home-like atmosphere, good security as well.
Our Ecuador adventure began in Quito at Hotel David. Everyone working here is exceptional and go far beyond expectations for customer service. They helped provide available and reliable transportation from airport and around the city. Our room was spacious with a fabulous view of the mountains from our balcony. Breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared each day. Room was cleaned every day and was spotless. Our bed was comfortable. We had a wonderful stay!
You should definitely consider staying at this hotel when in Quito. It's centrally located on perhaps the most charming street in the city, lined with old plane trees. The atmosphere is charming, artsy, and peaceful, almost like a homestay. The patio is fantastic, adorned with numerous potted plants. The rooms are cozy and spotlessly clean. The staff is absolutely fantastic, always ready to help. Plus, they serve a nice breakfast! Highly recommended!!
Hernan and Gloria make this hotel into the best place you could stay at in Quito (the hotel itself is also very nice, clean and in a great location). You can check-in and out as it works best, breakfast at any time, they can organize all types of activities and shuttles across Ecuador for you at better prices than uber or agencies and help you however they can! Highly recommend to stay there, I would any time :)
A basic but fantastic hostel. Clean and comfortable. staff great and plan told of activities to entertain in the evenings as area isn’t safe at night. food is superb and cheap. they help organise tours and give great advice on your Ecuador trip. hot shower and fast wifi. and the rooftop terrace has just been refurbished and is an awesome place to chill out with stunning views over Quito.
Nothing not to like about this hotel. The interior of the colonial mansion is impeccable. Awesome stuff: David and Maria made our stay very comfortable and flexible. The gourmet dinners by chef Edison are unforgettable. The rooms are spacious, well decorated and comfy. Location is convinrent for both proximity to the Old Town and pick-ups by tour operators. We really enjoyed our stay.
This is an adorable hotel on a beautiful tree lined street. We stayed here twice on our trip to Ecuador. Both rooms were super spacious and well maintained daily by the staff. The owner, Veronica, was particularly helpful with our trip, informative and friendly. This hotel was like a home away from home while in Ecuador. I highly recommend it.
exceptional value. the staff was wonderful and kind and they made sure everything was perfect for us. they allowed our kids to play with their dogs and brought us a yummy warm drink for our family. it’s well placed in Quito Old Town. there was some street noise but it was manageable. I would stay here again!
Breakfast was one of the best we have had in south america! It was perfect location in the old town. Staff were super helpful with our plans in Quito and the rest of Ecuador. Rooms were spacious and clean and the shower was hot We loved our stay and would reccomend!
Beautiful hotel in a very central location to the Old Town. Delicious restaurant food, nice bar and overall very attentive staff and good service. Lobby filled with beautiful fresh Ecuadorian roses. Filtered water fountain in lobby is helpful.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. The terrace view is amazing, I spent great time there. Room was little bit cold, breakfast was yummy, and definitely recommend this hotel for your Ecuador trip.
Terrific apartment in the old town of Quito. Manager was always available and very helpful. Lots of space. Clean. And it was fun browsing through the library of books.
