It is an extremelly picturesque and in parts quaint town! It does have its own railway station, and a very good bus service! The Hermitage is a MUST SEE! Lovely little town.

Dunkeld and Birnam are very picturesque little towns. There are beautiful walks along the riverbank. The cathedral and grounds are worth a visit. If exploring the surrounding areas Kinclaven woods has the most spectacular display of bluebells at this time of year. Great music scene to be appreciated. Limited eateries open on a Monday evening. I visited this very picturesque town during Easter weekend...
I visited this very picturesque town during Easter weekend 2025 and found it extremely busy. The main street was nose to tail parked cars and every car park was full. However the beautiful setting and old-world feel of the town more than made up for this inconvenience! Another minor downside is that most of the shops don't open until 10:00 (some not until 11:00). I don't know whether that was merely due to my visit taking place during a holiday weekend. However, I noticed there was a queue to entered one of the bakeries - a very friendly local person told me this was because the shop was run by a Great British Bake-Off contestant! I had an amazing dinner in The Perth Arms which is the oldest inn in the town (opened 1795 I think) - I'd strongly advise booking this well in advance. Bedding, towels etc all of good quality and there was everything you could possibly have needed to make your stay enjoyable. Situated in the centre of Dunkeld, lots of lovely shops and great places to eat. We were attending a wedding on the Murthly Estate which was just 15 minutes away and there was plenty of room for us all to get ready in comfort.
