Middleham
Located in Middleham, 2.4 mi from Forbidden Corner, The Priory features accommodations with free WiFi, a shared lounge and a garden. Beautiful house, wonderful warm welcome, room number 6 overlooks the castle and has a huge free standing bath, low beams and very comfy bed. Watching the horses go by to / from the gallops. Breakfast great esp for veggies with grilled halloumi, oodles of mushrooms, tomatoes and avocado. Situated in the town centre and only a short stagger to the pubs - they’re not great, the ones in Leyburn are better - but the black bull does homemade pies&chips and the Richard 3rd had Old Peculiar on handpull, what’s not to like....

Beautiful views and walks Friendly people Great pubs And got to see lots of race horses I would highly recommend the Coverbridge Inn that you can walk along the river to probably about 2 miles away. This pub is friendly and a traditional pub with great ales and delicious home cooked food
Picturesque little market village with the added interest of several race horse stables in the location. A walk up to the gallops early in the morning to watch the horses train is definitely worthwhile, as is a visit to the medieval castle.
Visited The Forbidden Corner which was great fun. We had a light lunch at the cafe on site, which was nicely presented. Evening meal was taken at the Three Horseshoes which was about a 15 minute drive away. Called in at Aysgarth Waterfalls on the way home the following day. The Forbidden Corner was very busy as it was the school holidays, however as visits are timed, I think this helps when planning a visit.
Middleham is a lovely place to stay if you like history as there is Middleham Castle right there, plus a lovely mediaeval church, St Mary's and St Akelda's. It's not far to many other great locations such as Aysgarth Falls (where the fight scene in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves was filmed), Bolton Castle, Jerveaulx Abbey, Fountains Abbey, Sheriff Hutton, Ripon, etc. The only negative is that it is sometimes difficult to get a late meal in Middleham itself, however there are plenty of other eating places nearby if you have a car. The Richard III B&B does do great food and the fish and chip shop is also very good. It is hilly, so be prepared to huff and puff up the hill to the castle! And, if you have kids, don't miss The Forbidden Corner - the weirdest place on earth - only about 3 miles away. Set aside about four hours!
The location is amazing, quiet, clean, not to far from local amenities. The staff work very hard to make sure your stay is comfortable and go out of their way to ensure you are happy. Very attentive. We had a small issue with our room at check in and after talking to the lovely manager, it was sorted out very quickly and without fuss. Check in was easy and straightforward. We stayed in the Ninjinski room for 4 nights. Lovely room, Bed was very comfy, air con nice, fitment was of a high standard, dogs welcome which was nice to see. Room was cleaned every day to a high standard. Really lovely breakfast options. and thank you Thomas and all the other staff members for good service. We did not use the restaurant as we ate out in the local communities which offered a great selection, In short, good price, great location, lovely staff, relaxing and something for everyone. Will definitely return again in the future. Thank you all
The area has beautiful villages and towns with excellent pubs with great food and beer. The locals were very welcoming and friendly. There are many beautiful landscapes and attractions with lovely country walks, waterfalls and amazing scenery in this area. We would go back to the Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn which had excellent food and service at a very good price.
The Wensleydale Hotel is set in the market place in Middleham and our view had lovely views of Middleham Castle. Our room was clean and comfortable although could have done with some updating. The hotel is doing lots to help people feel safe during Covid and staff were very helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant but breakfast was good. Its a great place to stay if you love horses, in the evening we took a walk and saw lots of the racing stables Middleham is famous for. The hotel had a lovely design and feel.
Middleham
A really lovely cottage in a perfect location to explore the Yorkshire Dales. Located in Middleham it was very easy to get to many places of interest in and around the Dales. My wife called it ‘The Mary Poppins Cottage’ as it was practically perfect in every way. Highly recommended.
Middleham is interesting - with the castle just behind the hotel - and racehorses trotting past in the morning. When we arrived on a Friday evening, the pub was busy, cosy and buzzing, with a nice open fire.
Middleham
Sarah and Chris were excellent hosts. Room was a very good size clean and comfortable - much better than some 3 and 4 star hotels. Breakfast was superb - presented and cooked to a high standard.
