We visit Swindon to see relatives. we lived there for many years. Swindon has lots of history, particularly regarding railways and the age of steam. The Railway village, the Steam Museum and the Outlet Village are all worth visiting. Its a good starting point for visiting the Downs and many pretty villages in Wiltshire.
Nice shopping area, but the traffic was always very busy, parking was plentiful and quite cheap. Must watch out for the bus lanes if you are not used to them. Plenty of eating places, spoilt for choice.
We are residents of Swindon and stayed at the hotel whilst we had work carried out on our home. Our opinion of Swindon is unprintable due to the lack of facilities, the constant never ending road works (that are currently everywhere you go) and general malaise in the town centre where there are hardly any shops left. The Outlook Village is highly overrated with most of the food court gone and nowhere to eat other than one or two of the usual food chains. To sum up, unless you really have to, give Swindon a miss. Ugh.
We use this hotel often as it is convenient for visits to family, We do not go into Swindon. I grew up 11 miles away so know the area well. We had a very enjoyable meal at The Greek Olive in Faringdon Road. It was a last minute booking as we had anticipated eating in the hotel.
The steam museum is very good but could not pay cash (warning !!) Another customer paid for me on her card, Swindon has a number of empty and derelict office blocks including above the the station. The Honda car factory has closed. Found a very good source of Vauxhall spare parts on the Cheney factory estate. The is a new shopping outlet next to the steam museum
We stayed at the Stanton House Hotel as it gave us good access to the Cotswolds at a sensible cost. Being only just down the road from the Cotswold water park with all rest to explore within a twenty mile radius at the outside The famous Bibury is only nine miles from Stanton House
conveniently located close to train station and city centre. Breakfast was basic but adequate, and as so many hotels don't include breakfast these days, I can't complain! there is also a 24 hour menu which is great, as I arrived late, and when Ive stayed in Holiday Inn Express in other places I haven't always bee able to get anything to eat in the evening other than ordering a takeaway from outside.
An excellent hotel very convenient for Swindon. The staff were very attentive, helpful and fun to talk to. Another positive is that dogs may accompany the guest, with the hotel providing a treaty bag for your 4 legged friend. Highly recommend this hotel.

Location. Permit parking. Excellent, pleasant and friendly housekeeping and front of house team.....(one exception)* Character....quirky. Still.preferable to characterless hotels at the other end of town.
Swindon
The hotel was excellent, super clean, new and the best part was that they accepted our dog and were really friendly with him. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. We would definitely come back.

We had a lovely experience spending two nights at this place.
