Offering a terrace, Hotel Locanda al Pomo d'Oro is a 12th-century building with rooms including free WiFi, parquet floors and an LCD TV. For a low, low price, I had a very comfy room & bed, a little balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains above Cividale. Decor of my room was simple but tasteful (polished wood, large marble tiles, excellent quality materials, roomy bathroom, at least for one person. The manager was very obliging, and patient with my hearing disability. He arranged for me to leave a heavy bag, after checkout, at a neighboring bar (it was to be his afternoon off), while I was working at the archeological museum all morning. The Locanda is a short walk from Cividale centro, the museo and the celtic site, also the bridge (even the train station is only ten minutes walk).

Frequent stays in Cividale over a period of about 12 years makes me feel at home there. All "must see" sites are easily reached on foot, except maybe the beautiful hotel (castello) located on a mountain. The same is definitely true for the visit to Castelmonte. There are a number of great restaurants serving delicious meals.
A hidden gem. Very nice medieval feeling. The 'Diavolo Bridge' is breathtaking. Excellent food at Al Monastero - served by Cristian. Castelmonte is worth seeing. Very easy to drive around, strongly recommend a short drive (25 km) to Slovenia (Kobarid). Wonderful scenery and very friendly people also.
Ideal location for 2-5 day get-away to amiable medieval Italian town in the countryside, away from the tourist hustle and crowds of Venice. Located near vineyards, farms, mountains and seacoast for excursions, wine tasting, hiking, or hanging-out. Bedrooms overlook the crystal-clear Natisone River, where you can sunbathe, listen to the ducks and birds, or just contemplate life. Great place to sample local life for a few days.
One day was not enough for the charms of this historical town. Not only is it very scenic, but has UNESCO sites and museums, including the very interesting Museum that was a private collection of Marionettes and Puppets. I ate at the recommended Il Campanile and tried the local specialty FRICO made of cheeses and potatoes...and for the first time in all my experiences dining in Italy, the staff packaged up the 1/2 of it that I could not finish to be heated up later.
Unique town with a lot of interesting history. Outside of the town there is beautiful scenery and lots of little towns to explore. Ideal for biking and hiking and relaxing in the countryside. The archeological museum is quite interesting and gives you an idea of the long and diverse history of the area.
Cividale is a lovely little town, UNESCO historic site of the 8th century Longobardo "tempietto" and the Diablo bridge over a scenic green ravine. This part of Italy has relatively few tourists. From Cividale we took a day trip to Gorizia, another town with much to recommend it.

The owners were very friendly, one lady, maybe she was their daughter, spoke good English. The location of the hotel was excellent, a few steps away from the lovely big piazza full of atmosphere and nice bars, cafes and restaurants. The town of Cividale is wonderful with so much of interest to see.

What a charming place to stay. Hosts were great as was the traditional cuisine of that region of Italy. Everything we ate and wine we drank was grown or produced onsite. Just perfect. Room was warm and spacious. Should have stayed longer.

This is an apartment (with toilet and shower in the room) being rented as a hotel with a kitchen. Very comfortable and convenient. Not directly in the center of town, but close to two large supermarkets and to the train station.

Lovely location in farmland of northern Italy. Room was clean & comfortable & breakfast buffet was very nice. Although owner spoke little English and we less Italian, we had no trouble in understanding each other.

Nothing not to like. Clean comfortable with great owner. It is well located for several days worth of sights in a very low key part of Italy. Lovely garden in which to sit and secure parking.

Very friendly welcome, personal service, excellent breakfast, central location. A great alternative to today’s large impersonal hotels.
