A charming quiet little town, sort of a 'mini-Florence', a nice alternative to staying in Florence. It's only a short distance to Florence by train and a good base for exploring the region. The town itself is pretty with lovely surrounding countryside and it's pleasant to walk along the river.
Prato is a nice small town. If you like original Chinese food and environments, you will find and love them in the China town. When I was in Proto from August 12th to 15th, I would like to visit Textile Museum. In the tourist center, they showed me the map and route to the museum, but did not inform me that the museum was in the holiday and closed. After 20 minutes walking in 35℃, I was very upset in front of the closed door from the museum. I think the tourist center should improve their professional service level.
Prato itself is lively and an enjoyable place to stay. Easy to use the train for a trip to Florence. Lots of nice shopping, and easy to walk the center. We ate dinner twice at Soldano, just off from Piazza Duomo, and the food and service was excellent.
A great little city with lots of charm. Many things to see and do. Most people were very friendly. There were a few who didn't care for Americans but they didn't take anything away from our wonderful experience and Prato. Because so many others well welcome in and gracious. If you have a chance to visit Prato go visit Luca at Pizland. Amazing personality and the pizza was great!
Not much to see. The town is not clean. A big area of town with ugly warehouses and factories. Many non Italian, non European, culturally distant people around do not make it look and feel like Italy, do not even make it feel safe.
I visited Prato for a couple of days on business, but still managed to find time (in between dodging the intense sun) to explore the historic and enchanting streets. Prato is a city best explored on foot, so you can wind your way around the twisting back streets, and discover its charms. The core of the town, along with the Duomo, Castle and other buildings also contains many cafes and restaurants - from high cuisine to more economic fayre. Away from the centre of town, the river side walk is a particular highlight, as it allows you to drink in the spectacular scenery the city is situated within. Additionally, good rail links to elsewhere in Italy, notably nearby Florence, Prato makes a good base of operations to explore more of this historic country.
Prato
I had a wonderful week at Tommasso's Apartment! It's located in the middle of the oldtown and everything was reachable within a ten minutes walk (max.) in the beautiful center of Prato. 5 minutes by feet and you are at the train station "Prato Porta al Serraglio", where you can go to florence (20-30 minutes by train). The flat was clean and spacious and Tommasso is a wonderful host: well organized, easy-going and fast in responding if you need anything. Thumbs up and thank you, Tommasso!
I had a great stay here. Lovely room (I recommend the Comfort room + breakfast upgrade option - it's really worth it) and nice staff. Was very relaxing and comfortable. I found the location great for attending the Arts Centre opposite, and there are several supermarkets within walking distance. I found this handy. Overall, a lovely stay and I would like to stay here again. The sunny breakfast room and food made my days, as did my comfy big bed and sofa! Grazie mille Art Hotel Museo. A presto!
