Excellent starting point for exploring mid-Italy Very clean authentic location, tastfully renovated . Helpful and very sweet hostess. Super location: vibrant yet peaceful heart of Tivoli, near waterfalls and the historic sites , also close to Rome .
We drove to Tivoli which I would not recommend. The city center is congested and parking virtually impossible to find. Other than that, we enjoyed both Villa d'Este and Hadrians Villa. I'd recommend going in the off-season as we did (January). We had both sites almost to ourselves and could really enjoy our time.
Property was in easy walking distanc to shops and restaurants. Lots of restaurants and cafes. The apartment does not have a lift and the stairs are particularly steep. Very well appointed and lovely balcony where you can watch the locals and absorb the Italian lifestyle.
Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este with its wonderful fountains not to be missed. Would go to both again tomorrow if I could. Villa Adriana could do with some more signs to help you understand what the various buildings were and a small map should be provided on arrival but splendid none the less. Wonderful restaurent called Il Ciocco had a €10 lunch buffet which was excellent. Very easy to walk around Tivoli - fabulous place
I adore waterfalls, so Villa Gregoriana is top of my list. I also walked round the valley on the road to see the falls from afar, and while that offers a fabulous view, I wouldn't recommend it. There is no pedestrian footpath and drivers are not happy with pedestrians occupying a sliver of an already narrow road. Second on my list has to be Villa d'Este which has the most audacious fountains. Finally I went to visit Villa Adriana which is a bit of a schlep from town, vast, poorly signposted and basically, not really my thing. If you do go, don't miss the "Maritime Theatre". Most of the rest of it is just a great many bricks.
This is such a gem of a town! I stayed 2 nights and got to see Villa D’Este, Villa Adriana, and Villa Gregoriana, which were all equally amazing and I’d recommend seeing all 3 if you can. The town has lots of cute shops, cafes and restaurants. I ate at Enoteca Gadi and had the cheese, salami and toasts board along with a delicious glass of wine for a very good price - would highly recommend! Pinsa Regina had great food as well, with Gelateria Maurizio right next door for super tasty gelato. The town is very walkable and close to the train station if you don’t have a car. I look forward to visiting again!
I liked it all. The pool was a great relief with the summer heat.
