Accomodations were clean, was perfect value for money, love how close it was to the mountain, toilets and showers were also clean so we were happy with everything :) Thanks very much!
Unfortunately for us we got stuck in the middle of a blizzard which left us stranded in our hotel which wasn't to bad for us. Fortunately we had great accommodation and made the best of a bad situation.snow lovers would have been in paradise
Gorgeous little town I have driven past so many times yet this was my first time actually staying there. I realise there is so much more to be explored - the train station and cafe, hiking and biking trails. I could definitely do a week there. Schnapps restaurant had fabulous food and a warm fire burning. Great service. The train station cafe was also a winner. I will be back to explore this overlooked gem.
Magnificent, we did both the Tama Lakes and Taranaki falls walks. Started out both days before dawn so the sun came up over the mountains while we were walking (headlamp needed) . Beautiful days but it is an alpine environment so go prepared with layers. Good walking tracks High tea at the Chateau was a lovely treat after coming back from Tama Lake (ask for window seat)
Just a magical place, the mountains the history etc... Plenty to do nearby in the way of walks long and short, good base to explore the wider Tongariro area. We travelled to Taumarunui to do the Forgotten World Rail cart trip whis was fantastic, (grab some Fish and Chips from the Golden Kiwi takeaways in Taumarunui!!)... Scones and G&Ts at the Chateau, Ride the Gondala up Whakapapa... Short drive to visit the glow-worms at Kakahi. Take a day and have a leisurely drive around the entire Tongariro Nationa Park and visit Turangi and the trout hatchery then onto the Desert Road, Waiouru and Ohakune... amazing scenery!!
Clean. Many toilet options. Parts of track require attention including board walk maintenance. However overall track was good. Mind you we had perfect conditions. Its such a special area and yes many tourist operators are suffering as a result of closed borders but the numbers walking each day should be limited. NOT 3,000 !!! There should be a balance that enables tourist operators to exist and walkers enjoy the hike.
Awesome place to stay and so handy to Mt Ruapehu. Amazing Four Square with everything you'd need - Lotto, fabulously helpful ski hire shop (Elvins), some good eateries and playground. Fabulous for a sleepy little town by the mountain!
National Park
Great location near Whakapapa in the village at national park. The room was clean and comfortable with a en-suite bathroom and big storage cupboard. Bedding was comfortable and rooms were warm. We took advantage of the drying room for ski gear and the lounge with the fire and bar and lots of comfy couches made a comfortable lodge stay. Excellent value for money. We used the self catering kitchen, which was well stocked and clean though a second toaster would have been good.
National Park
Great location, close to 1.8km from National Park and only 40 minutes drive to Turoa. Family friendly, plenty of parking, probably an 80's style motel right on the main road with various accommodation options. Dry room for ski gear available. Very friendly host, have breakfast option available. Rooms tidy and clean with quiet heaters all in working condition. One of the hotel owners also runs a quad bike business which is quite handy if you're into action hobbies.
National Park
The location next to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is great. We enjoyed to be in the middle of nature with nothing else around. The cabin we had was all we needed and I enjoyed having my private bathroom. The communal kitchen is well equipped and a good place to meet other travelers. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
National Park
Great little lodge. Handy to National park, and very warm and cosy setting. Wasn’t expecting much for the really cheap rate, but it was really nice, and a perfect place to rest up after a full day exploring the walks around Tongariro national park

It was clean, comfy and warm. Great location. Only a short distance to do the Tongariro Crossing and to get the shuttle bus. The house had a great feel about it and will definitely stay there again and recommend to friends.
