The area is beautiful; however, the tragedy of the loss of the Old Town Lahaina casts a pall over the area. If you have memories of before the fire, it is very, very sad to see the remains of buildings and know that over 100 people lost their lives. The sentiment of Lahaina Strong is wonderful and uplifting but as you speak with residents, the current, somber message is that we will never regain what has been lost and there is no definitive plan or timeline for rebuilding. Lahaina is just recovering from the fire.
Lahaina is just recovering from the fire. So Honokowai & Kahana have become the new Lahaina. The ocean is so so beautiful. Some of the many resorts are awesome. The boardwalk (beach walkway) is a refreshing way to do additional exercise. I love Lahaina and hope it is restored ASAP. The maui bus is free for seniors and provides great views of destinations to visit. There are many places to eat & shop in Whalers Village & @ the area. Check out Papi's Ohana...Unbelievable cinnamon rools...but go early and prepare to wait in line. Beyond Papis Ohana was a 1Texaco Station with an ABC store. Inside they served hot meals. Prime Rib with two sides...$19.99! We had a family size chicken dinner for $20! The restaurant on property was very good...but very expensive, as all is in Hawaii. There is a grocery store across the street ( again, very expensive). There is also a small restaurant in that shopping center that is right up by the road...very good and cheap! Can't remember the name. We also loved going to Hula Grill at Whalers Village. We booked and paid for a 2-bedroom apartment with two...
We booked and paid for a 2-bedroom apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a pull-out sofa at The Kaanapali Alii By Maui Resort Rentals . When we arrived at the Resort, we were assigned a 1-bedroom apartment with a den that had a bed and a bathroom with a small pull-out sofa bed that did not offer privacy to the other couples that were traveling with us. The 1-bedroom was infested with lizards, cockroaches and pests running around the bedroom. The next day Maui Resort agreed to move us in a 2-bedroom apartment, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a pull-out sofa bed. However, we realized that night, the sofa bed was not a pull-out sofa as promised. Maui Resort provided us with a twin size floor mattress. I explained we were 60-years old and cannot not fit on a twin-sized floor mattress, and it would be difficult for us to get in and out of the floor mattress. Maui Resort asked us to return to the pests infested 1-bedroom apartment if we were not happy with sleeping on the couch or the twin-sized floor mattress provided. The whole time we were there, we had to sleep on chairs and a sofa and the resort refused to accomodate us or refund us our money.Guest review byNoam

The hotel is located at the end of the beachwalk, which is perfect as gives much more intimacy than the other hotels nearby, where tourists just wander around the hotels' common areas - not very relaxing. You can cook in the room because they provide everything you need. 3. It's close to restaurants and markets. 4. There's plenty of parking. 5. The beach is right in front. 6. Walking distance to Kapalua Beach with great snorkeling and a short drive to Honolua Bay Marine Reserve with some of the best coral on Maui.
