Historic center was vibrant and scenic. Enjoyed visiting the Basilica as well as the magnificent Church of the Franciscans and the colorful architecture and plazas. Enjoyed the chocolate tasting at Mundo, delicious traditional Andean cuisine at Runa Tulpa Andina and excellent continental cuisine at La Vid in the Archbishop's Palace. There was 360 degree view of city from the Statue of the Virgin Panecillo at top of Quito. A major highlight was the tour of the Capilla del Hombre and the home of the artist, Oswaldo Guayasamin.

Due to current political issues in Ecuador, we were a little apprehensive about making the trip. However, only minutes after we landed in Quito we fell in love. The airport is amazingly clean and has all the amenities you would want. Quito, the La Carolina area, was extremely clean and very secure. The shopping was fantastic and there were tons of restaurants to choose from. All that said, we were most surprised by how reasonably priced everything was.
Also, a lot of bars do not take credit cards. Ecuador uses the American dollar, so have some on hand so you don't have an awkward experience.
We would definitely make the trip again.

We were just there one night to experience the city having spent a few nights in the mountains near Pifo.
Loved the crazy city - beautiful architecture. Lots of security/police presence which made it feel safe. My partner was unwell so I explored the city solo - I was approached by a policeman who gave me a map and ensured I was safe/aware of where to walk etc.
It is easy to travel by foot. I would have liked longer but feel 2-3 nights would have been plenty.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito.
We stayed 2 nights in Quito. We had one full day in Quito, which was not enough. We happened to be there during Carnivale. We took a cab to the Basilica and then walked to Independance square to observe the celebration. Later we had a great meal in the nearby hall.

I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito.
I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito. A pickpocket stole my wallet and I lost USD 200. The police didn't seem to care and most couldn't speak English. Every single day I was harassed by beggars, some of whom were very aggressive. I didn't feel safe in Quito and became paranoid. I couldn't wait to leave. I would NEVER return to Ecuador and probably not any other country in South America. There is a nationwide state of emergency now, and it's very dangerous. I advise my fellow Americans to avoid Ecuador like the plague unless you go straight to the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador is by far the worst country I've ever been to and I've traveled all over the world.

It's an old city, with lots of history and historical buildings. Many museums, often free. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the climate is excellent.
Most of the people I met were friendly and willing to help a confused stranger. There are some beggars, and some unsavory areas, as with any sizable city.
I highly recommend visiting Wikiri Sapoparque if you're an animal lover. It's a great and unique experience.
The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean! We had hot water everyday, there are a few reviews about having no hot water. There is a trick with the showers. You need to let it heat up slowly and then increase pressure as it heats. The rooms do get fairly cold at night, but the blankets on the bed were amazing! We wanted to bring them with us! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a fresh and delicious breakfast every morning. We will definitely stay at Hotel Muros again when we visit Quito!
Hernan and Gloria, the manager of the hotel, are very very nice, trustworthy and respectful people. We stayed several times with them and enjoyed the stay with hot water, good Wi-Fi, quiet and clean rooms and basic continental breakfast. The location is really good (just around the corner to the historical Center) and there is a really good pizza place in the quiet street. Hernan also speaks English and knows a lot about Quito and Ecuador and helped us with various things. Thank you for everything!
Excellent family-owned Hostel in Quito, especially for couples or groups of friends. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and more importantly: very quiet. The garden has hammocks, chairs and even a gym. It’s a small oasis in between all the chaos of Quito.
But the staff stands out the most. They are incredibly friendly and helpful. And for only three dollars they offer a quite substantial breakfast.
There’s also balance which is perfect if you should leave Ecuador by plane afterwards.
I came from Ukraine and could be after I left my country, just today in Cristal home I had really so good emotions, I relaxed a lot!
Thank you so much for this experience in this amazing place! I have just positive and amazing emotions! Everything so clean, so beautiful, good administrator that received us! 10/10
I enjoyed a lot of the view from the pool! It’s unreal,so beautiful place, so beautiful Quito and so beautiful Ecuador 🇪🇨 Gracias!
The staff was so kind and accommodating and helpful for my family of four. The location was great — close to the old town and not far to Mariscal where the market was, so we could tour museums and churches, have some great meals nearby and at the hotel, and also shop for gifts. The staff went over the top to make sure we had a great stay, and we really appreciated it!
After a trip in Ecuador with very loud and run down hotels, we ended our trip by treating ourselves to this slightly more expensive hotel and it was so worth it, especially as we were both sick. The room was very clean and free parking!! Big TV and comfortable bed. Very clean. The best part was the breakfast (US$12 each) as it had many delicious options buffet style.
Very helpful staff. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. They can arrange taxis. Centrally located. Groceries next door. Covid test for travelers next door. Choice of quick bites nearby. The Old Town center is a 15 min walk, but do not walk after dark with valuables. 5 min on foot is Cafe San Blas, probably the best Italian food in Quito old Town area.
exceptional value. the staff was wonderful and kind and they made sure everything was perfect for us. they allowed our kids to play with their dogs and brought us a yummy warm drink for our family. it’s well placed in Quito Old Town. there was some street noise but it was manageable. I would stay here again!
Comfortable and quiet hostel with a fully stocked kitchen and good breakfast. Close to the historic city centre. Owner is really nice and gives a personal touch to your stay. He knows everything about Quito, Ecuador and Galapagos so you will have a perfect intinirary after your stay.
A great location for walking to the Basilica and old town or hop on the brand new Metro system at Al Alameda, just a 5 minute walk away. Very hot water in the shower. Lots of Ecuadorian crafts and ornaments in the hotel.
This hotel absolutely blew our minds, it's a beautiful oasis in downtown Quito. Everyone was so helpful with advice and answering our million questions. It's safe, clean, beautiful and really filled with gorgeous details.
Perfectly located hotel right in the city centre. The couple that run Hostal Benalcazar are lovely and extremely hospitable. They made our short stay in Quito very memorable and helped us with all of our queries.
We stayed a couple of times on our trip to Ecuador while passing through Quito. Nice staff, breakfast good for what we paid, comfortable bed, large modern and clean bathroom, hot water, good wifi, felt safe.
The proprietors of this family owned hotel were incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, my room was comfortable and the location was very convenient for sightseeing in the old town.
I came here with my girlfriend to propose. The hotel staff went out of there to help me plan and get anything I needed. They were all so nice and one of the best places I’ve stayed in Ecuador!
Old town Quito hotel. Location was great. Hosts were wonderful and they prepared a great breakfast in the morning on the roof area. Super clean. Very well secured and safe place to stay.
The views and the finishes in the hotel are stunning. The restaurant is very good and the complimentary breakfast was delicious, one of the best we have had in Ecuador.
Well decorated and very clean. Shower is really good, in fact it was the best we’ve had in Ecuador. Everyone is very nice at the hotel and always ready to help.
Have been coming to the hotel for many years and the staffs are super friendly always welcoming with ecuadorian roses. Love the breakfast!!! And the Spa
