Neighborhood info

Clappersgate, nestled beneath the picturesque Loughrigg fell, is a charming village located just a mile from Ambleside on the Coniston road. In the 16th century, it held the classification of a port, boasting a wharf on the Brathay river. This historical port facilitated the transportation of local quarried slate downstream to Windermere and beyond, serving as a crucial trade route to the south. As you arrive at the property, you'll be greeted by a serene and secluded atmosphere. Situated at the end of a private driveway, just off the A593, Loughrigg Cottage stands as the final residence on the estate. Rest assured, your privacy and tranquility are ensured. Despite its peaceful seclusion, Loughrigg Cottage offers easy access to Ambleside, one of the most popular towns in the Lake District. Nestled at the head of Windermere and surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, Ambleside has much to offer. While it attracts many visitors, the town reveals its true charm when you venture away from the bustling main roads and explore its hidden treasures. During your stay at Loughrigg Cottage, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds – the serenity of a secluded retreat and the proximity to the delightful town of Ambleside. In addition to its stunning natural beauty, Ambleside boasts a vibrant town center with a charming selection of restaurants, cafés, and traditional pubs. These establishments cater to diverse culinary tastes, with an array of delicious options to satisfy any palate. As you explore the town, you'll also discover a delightful assortment of specialty shops, offering unique products and outdoor gear from trusted brands. Ambleside's welcoming atmosphere and friendly locals make it a true gem within the Lake District.
