In Bowness village, a 10-minute walk from Lake Windermere, this Victorian guest house still retains many of its original features. Offering free off-road parking, free Wi-Fi, and peaceful private gardens it is an ideal base for exploring Windermere and the Lake District. Rooms at Oakfold House are elegant in style, and some have traditional fireplaces. Each has an private bathroom, flat-screen TV, and a drinks tray for tea, coffee and biscuits. A full Cumbrian breakfast is served each morning with meat sourced from award-winning local butchers Higginsons of Grange. Lighter options are also available including Scottish smoked salmon, grilled kippers and bircher muesli.

We purchased and moved into Oakfold House in September 2023 after running a small bed and breakfast in Crail, near St Andrews in Scotland.

Property info

Oakfold House is a beautiful 4 star rated period Victorian residence built in Lakeland stone and retaining many original features. We are conveniently located in a quiet position between Bowness and Windermere, and are just a short walk away from both the Lake and Windermere itself.

Neighborhood info

There is a lot to do within Bowness and Windermere. The Lake is gorgeous all year round, with the different colours that reflect the seasons. There are boat trips that can be taken to other towns and locations around the Lake. There are a number of different walks too that are varied depending on experience and expectations. For those who like to shop, Bowness has plenty of independent shops that are not found in other high streets. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs catering for differing tastes as well as opportunities for that well-earned pint.
