Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.
The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.
Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.
At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.
On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

We only stayed one full day, and I will say there is a lot to see and do so a couple days is reccomended. The beach was nice, with some great restaurants and options for bars in town. It is an old town, and there are some areas that could use restoration, but it has a certain charm. Everywhere we went the people were freindly.

We’ve never felt more welcome with our dog than here! The love and attention was simply amazing. We had a little doggy welcome pack and a customized map with all the dog friendly things to do. Pam was very attentive and gave us advice that had us visit some real Bournemouth gems. The room was extremely spacious and comfortable. Very soft bed and pillows that guaranteed a good night’s sleep after a long day of sightseeing. The location was perfect - quiet but also very close to the beach. A real home away from home!
This is a very nice boutique hotel with great views, within walking distance to the city center. The staff is wonderful and they resolved our little crisis before departure, and even gave us a ride to the train station to make sure we do not miss our train that was connected to an international flight. Wonderful people in a gorgeous town. Ventana restaurant has great food and a nice atmosphere. Bournemouth is a pleasant, lively English riviera with cafes, parks and live music, and we had a great stay at Cumberland.
Owners were lovely & nothing was too much trouble. Property appeared to be very well looked after with plenty of period character & charm which the owners have kept. I’d say one of ( if not the) best in Bournemouth.
Spacious room which was warm and of the highest standard. It had everything you could want.
Breakfast choice was great and very well cooked with attentive service. You could even order a packed lunch.
We’d have no trouble recommending this hotel & will def. be returning. 👍
I had a very pleasant stay by the sea. The apartment was spotlessly cleaned and well equipped. My first experience booking a whole apartmnet rather than a hotel. It was compact but absolutly spot on for my needs. Free parking space was an unexpected bonus for the town centre location.
Thank you again for your help and letting me book in the last minute. I will most likely be back with my family in the summer to enjoy Bournemouth Beach.
I have stayed here numerous times and must say I don’t stay anywhere else when I come to Bournemouth!
It’s within walking distance to the beach, the hotel restaurant is amazing! The chefs need a prize, not to mention- the bar tender makes the best mocktails!
The reception staff are so friendly and the gym and spa facilities are great.
A great location to unwind and enjoy, I truly love this hotel and will be sure to be back!
Exceptional value stay for 2 nights. Travelling with husband and friends to visit Christmas lights and market, and attend concert at the Bournemouth Pavilion. The Hotel is, clean, comfortable, in a perfect location, the staff all very friendly and helpful. Our room and en suite were very spacious. The bed was enormous and comfy.. Food/drinks charges reasonable.
Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bournemouth.
Closure of the Heathlands Hotel resulted in us being transferred to The Royal Bath Hotel, Bournemouth. In view of our late rearrangements we were fortunate to get an upgrading to a fantastic room which overlooked the pier. Our stay was excellent in all respects so consequently have great pleasure in giving the hotel and staff a 5* rating. Bryan and Lynn Pickett.
It was in the best position for the beach, pier, lower gardens and the Bournemouth International centre. But more importantly the owner was very polite and welcoming and there were no petty rules and regulations. The whole hotel was clean and the breakfast was delicious and everyone was catered for
The location is good for Bournemouth. Easily walkable to the city center, could be closer to the beach. I came during an August heatwave, so most things were booked and the town was crowded as expected. The town was lively and the hotel was standard and as promised.
Hotel is located in a very great location close to the beach. The price was very good and included breakfast that had lot of varieties of food to choose from.
Nearby competitors were charging more than this hotel.
You're doing great. Keep it up.
Absolutely everything Debbie was a lovely host and so accommodating. Our room was just perfect. Spotlessly clean couldn't fault a thing. The best hotel we have stayed in all the times we have come to Bournemouth.
The hotel location was great for the beach or to walk into Bournemouth centre.
The bedroom was spacious and light and in manor with the style of the building.
Tea and coffee facility in room was good.
Hands down one of the best properties I have stayed. The home felt like a home. It’s cosy decorated to a high standard. Please stay here over any hotel when you visit Bournemouth.
