Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.
Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.
Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.
Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.
Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.
Beautiful cathedral. So-so outdoor market. People are very very friendly and helpful. It's a nice city to just wander everywhere, and easy to find your bearings.
Lots of information and a wonderful monument to Edith Cavell, the brave nurse executed by the Germans.
Many varied eateries to match your hunger level or kind of dining experience you want, from street takeaways to tea cafes to fine dining.
I enjoyed my stay in Norwich; no pressure, and I had a very fine studio apartment called Wellington Apartments, which is directly behind Norwich Cathedral.

Two days in Norwich was just right for us to explore the historic interests, shop the Shambles and get a feel for the culture and atmosphere. I'm not sure why it's not a top tourist recommendation as there is lots of charm and history in a relatively small and easy to explore town. Maybe the cobble stone streets being a little hilly are more difficult for the elderly that aren't used to the European way of walking so much, but it seems everyone got around well.

Tombland area was pleasant
Tombland area was pleasant
The cathedral was utterly beautiful
However the city in general looked tatty, dirty and uncared for.
The rubbish bins overflowed
The graffiti was everywhere
The hen and stag parties were lewd and loud.
The pubs were shabby and over crowded
There seems to be a dearth of good restaurants and bars.
Overall..very disappointing.
The city looked neglected and we were very disappointed.

City is not the quaint picture postcard cobbled streets you imagine. Sadly the closure of major department stores in the centre gives feeling of neglect. Every street has empty premises. Major fast food outlets dominate and individual restaurants hard to find. Cathedral and its area is beautiful and well maintained. Street market jaded and short of shops. Locally owned Jarrold store worth a visit. Buses to outlining areas very good. Parking for cars difficult as in any city. Local people are very welcoming and stay can be used as centre for visiting the Norfolk Broads and outlying areas.

Such a historic, rich, cultural place which was greatly enhanced for me by staying in the Colegate area with it's historic churches, squares, and leafy river walks . Else where there are two cathedrals and also public and private galleries where I saw some excellent exhibitions. There is an independent cinema with a very good art house movie programme constantly being updated and a beautiful bar. There are many wonderful cafes where you can chill with high quality beverages and patisseries. There is also the plantation Garden which I shall reserve for my next visit and the Castle Museum and Art Gallery with it's lovely gardens. The shopping is also very good.
Situated in a quiet residential area of Norwich, though only a relatively short walk from the city centre. Free parking supplied and plenty of availability in surrounding roads as an alternative. The room was a good size, nicely decorated and had everything that we needed. Bathroom was modern and spacious and TV options were good - Netflix and I believe Prime TV both supplied. A continental breakfast is provided in the room, along with a fridge big enough to keep some of your own things in. Plenty of hangers in wardrobe too.
Everything! Absolutely spotless, very tastefully decorated and love the original features that have been so well preserved. The location is spot on, if you don't mind a bit of a walk (only 15 mins or so) into town, I love this area of Norwich so it was perfect. The parking was so easy, we got the spot right out the front of the house. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen had everything you needed and the bathroom was lovely.
stayed in boutique hotels around the world, don’t be fooled by this one being in a pub it has all the English charm you could want and a great pub (and pub menu) is a bonus. our room has a tastefully executed 20s feel and the bed was 10/10 comfortable. location to Norwich city centre is less than 10 mins at a leisure stroll with some of the cities best restaurants including a Michelin star on your doorstep. bravo GTH.
Beautiful countryside setting. Lovely old style building. Lovely interior. Excellent staff. A chef with a Michelin star, from a previous restaurant and aiming for one at Caistor Hall too. Lovely breakfast area. Dog friendly. Stunning countryside walks around Caistor and Stoke Holy Cross. Old Roman ruin walks too, behind the church. Ten mins into Norwich City centre.
The hotel location is great and the room is a good size. The shower is nice and powerful and the bathroom clean. I did not use the microwave and fridge but they were clean and easily accessed. I am disabled and sometimes use a wheel chair, I was not in a disabled room but found the hotel easily accessible. The staff were friendly and approachable.
The location is central. The view over Norwich is good. The radiators have individual thermostats and the sound insulation is good.
The bathroom is well equipped.
It is a newly converted flat in a previous office block, so is clean and fresh.
Good parking(important in Norwich City centre).
Beds are comfy. Bedding and towels clean and plentiful.
Good location within easy reach of the park & ride for Norwich City Centre. Nice grounds and very impressive on the approach. Used the pool (you book in a time slot due to Covid) and had a massage both of which were organised very well. Ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very nice, good atmosphere and would come back again.
Lovely period building in a central location, lovely part of Norwich city centre. Near to everything but quite peaceful. 24 hour parking at £10 in the car hotel park was useful for us too.
Our bedroom was spacious, light and well insulated. No noise disturbance at all and we slept very well.
Very nice staff: friendly and helpful.
What an absolute gem of a find !! Literally 10 mins (or less) from anywhere in Norwich city centre . Beautifully restored building . Modern , stylish & comfortable . Pet friendly. Fantastic Hosts who could not be more obliging. We will definitely recommend & book again .
An excellent city centre hotel with old world charm but with a modern twist. The room was very well equipped, comfortable & warm. The breakfast buffet was extensive & the restaurant prices for dinner reasonable. Staff were all helpful & I would definitely stay here again
Great little apartment, had everything you'd need for a short stay. Easy to access. Location was perfect for us, and a fab little coffee place at the end of the road was a bonus. Host was great at communicating. Would definitely stay again when/if we visit Norwich again.
Great apartment in fabulous central location with stunning view of Norwich Castle. Presented to a very high standard with lots of thought given to what residents might need. Felt very secure here. Management company very attentive and good communication.
Great location for gig at Epic Studios - really funky part of Norwich with great pubs and restaurants. Clean and comfy house with loads of nice welcoming touches. Coffee machine a bonus as well as the supplies left in the kitchen.
