Villa Greta was in a STUNNING location up the hill in Taormina. Be mindful that you have to walk a lot of stairs to get to town, which wasn't a problem for us (15-20 min walk). Besides that, the villa was wonderful- we stayed in the suite and had a private terrace with beautiful views of mt etna and the ocean. All other rooms in this villa have a small balcony with the same view if you don't want to pay for the suite. The staff were great and we had dinner here one night - delicious!! Great value and away from the business of the town; it's very quiet at villa greta. The room was clean and AC worked great!

Taormina is an undeniably beautiful town that captures the charm of Sicily with its stunning views and Greek History. One of the highlights of visiting Taormina is the views one of which is Mount Etna, which serves as a magnificent backdrop to the town. However, it is very pricey and touristy, which can detract from its authenticity and local feel.
The town boasts an array of high-end shops and restaurants, catering to visitors seeking luxury and fine dining experiences. It's an excellent place to visit for a day trip, allowing you to soak in the sights, enjoy the upscale ambiance, and perhaps indulge in some shopping.
The beaches below Taormina, while picturesque, are primarily reserved for guests staying at the beach resorts. The public areas on these beaches are relatively small and can get crowded and you can be bothered by street vendors, especially during peak tourist season. If you're planning to spend a day at the beach, staying at one of the resorts might offer a more comfortable and exclusive experience.
In summary, Taormina is a delightful destination for a day trip, especially if you appreciate high-end shopping and dining, and want to enjoy a stunning view of Mount Etna. However, be prepared for the tourist crowds and limited public beach access.

It is super full of tourists. We were there in late May. During the day, the day trip groups come to the town and it becomes hard to walk on the streets or find a sport in a restaurant. The prices in the restaurants are high.

Taormina is a 'must see' destination and has so much to offer. We visited Savoca nearby whilst staying in Taormina which was a real treat. We also had an excellent dinner one night in Giardini Naxos and were serenaded by a folk group who made the night magical. We will definitely be returning.

A marvellous location and unique natural beauty have earned this city the nickname of Pearl of the Ionian Sea. The distinctive city of Taormina in eastern Sicily is perched on a rock above sea level, with awe-inspiring views over Mount Etna and the coastline.
Like many other tourism hotspots, you have to plan carefully to avoid tourist traps and not get stuck in huge crowds.

Loved the location, lots to explore on foot with the Corso Umberto for shopping and eating, the Greek Theatre and the Botanical gardens for a quiet place to reflect and enjoy the views, and a play area for the children.
The cable car is worth using to access the beaches which again are well serviced with food, drink and toilet facilities.
Fabulous food, Mount Etna on your doorstep and great shopping.
Villa Mabel is ideally situated in Taormina positioned almost exactly in the centre of the old town. It is a lovely, characterful, quirky old house with views over some of the old town and lovely ones of the sea. I will always prefer to stay in this style of place over the boring uniformity of chain hotels The staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed Taormina and the villa so much that I extended my stay for another night. However those who like the known deliverables of chain hotels might not appreciate its unique character.
This adorable and charming hotel is located in the perfect Taormina location. It's just steps away from shopping and restaurants. The breakfast room has a wonderful view of the sea and Mt. Etna as well as great food and coffee. The personalized service we received while staying at the hotel was amazing. The concierge made dinner reservations for us at the most delicious local restaurants for us each night (Trattoria Tiramisu was our fav!). Overall, great experience staying at Hotel Villa Taormina.
Friendly staff, 24-7 concierge service, parking, great location - near Taormina cable car and with private beach
The breakfast versatility was quite limited , yet the dining terrace was amazing. We also enjoyed the restaurant evening meals - good quality and moderate pricing
We left the hotel before breakfast and got some early food packages prepared specially for us.
The wooden furniture and room design patterns date back to early 1970s, but as everything in Italy - it has the style and good vibes
The hotel is so homely! Decorated in the most beautiful artwork. It's also one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed. The location was perfect - an extremely short walk to the centre of Taormina. The views from the rooftop were amazing - I just wish I had more time to utilise it! The staff were so helpful - Luca especially was available to discuss and make suggestions to our group at any time via WhatsApp. It exceeded my expectation.
Great location in a quiet street overlooking the gulf of Taormina, but not far from the centre of the city. Restaurants and shops easily reachable.
The sea view from the room I booked is breathtaking. I lived sitting on the balcony and watch the sunrise, the sunset and everything in between. Even the bathroom has a window with sea view! The hotel ans the rooms are kept clean. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Giuseppe was absolutely fantastic. He made an intentional effort every day to ensure that our experience in Taormina was perfect. What I admire most about him, is the pride he takes in his family business.
The rooms were exceptionally clean, the staff was extremely friendly and the breakfast was outstanding! Not to mention the location of the hotel is perfect.
We could not recommend this hotel enough!
My sister and I had the best ever holiday. The hotel's location couldn't be better for a relaxed holiday. It's only 2 mins away on foot from the beautiful and historic Castelmola centre. The hotel also provides a shuttle service to/from Taormina 3 times a day, which was extremely convenient. All the staff were nice, especially all those at reception.
I highly recommend Hotel Villa Sonia.
Unassuming on the outside the hotel is built into the side of the hill with stunning sea views. The rooftop restaurant was jaw dropping, the pool cool and uncrowded and the staff genuinely welcoming. We were sailing around Sicily so one night ashore was a touch of luxury with a fantastically comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and dinner in the evening was five star.
This is a beautiful hotel, overlooking Isola Bella, just above the beach in Taormina. All the spacious rooms have balconies facing the beach and island, and the breakfast room on the 4th floor and rooftop pool and lounge area also face the same spectacular view. The breakfast buffet was amazing and its such a gorgeous place to sit and eat your breakfast.
Beautiful location with amazing views. Grand hotel which would benefit from a refresh of the room we were in. A little more thorough cleaning would also improve the guest experience.
Best breakfast of our 10 day trip on a beautiful patio overlooking the ocean.
Also has parking which is hard to find at this hotel price point in Taormina.
Really charming hotel owner and staff that will make you feel that you are staying in a relax historical location. Located outside Taormina center but near the beach and well connected to the train station, ideal for both public or private transport. Good breakfast buffet (maybe the cappuccino can be improved -being in Italy-).
The hotel is located close to the main strolling street of Taormina. I chose to park my car in the large garage about 10 minutes walk from the hotel for about €25 per day. The hotel has parking that I didn’t take advantage of only because I arrived very early.
The view from pool and breakfast area and the private beach were absolutely exceptional and amazing. This luxury stay is definitely a special stop when visiting Taormina. You don’t want to leave the hotel. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable.
Taormina is incredible! The hotel is higher end compared to the others in the area. The staff is wonderful! And the their shuttle service makes this an idea hotel for the area. You can go up into town or down to the beach.
Location and view superb. A real touch of old Italian and Sicilian luxury throughout. Rooms were amazing and the free hotel shuttle up and down to Taormina was a great surprise. The spa treatments are also excellent
Excellent location close to beach and cable car to centre of Taormina. Excellent waiter service dinner in restaurant. Hotel has own beach club/lido with mini bus transport, payable but good value for a day
We love everything about this hotel. Every time we come to taormina we book this hotel. It is pricey but we have gone two years in a row for my birthday so its a special treat for us.
