Make sure there is not some form of function/celebration or protest. Trafalgar Square was entirely closed up & decorated for Chinese New year & I felt that took away from one of London's iconic features
Gets crowded on any warm day but woth seeing the nations tribute to our most famous and successful admiral,Lord Nelson.Around the square are a number of our famous galleries. All the streets off the square offer a whole range of interesting places to and things to see.
Wonderful place with easy access to National Gallery and the Portrait Gallery is just around the back. Both have good cafes to eat and good Gallery shops. Often there are performers in this Square which adds to the atmosphere.Kids love climbing on the bronze lions.
Overlooking the Square is St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church. Go there. To the left of the church is a glass dome with stairs or take the lift down to their Cafe in the Crypt. Yes, it’s where people are buried. You can dine very cheap for London. cafeteria style. The food tastes like home cooking. Always a gluten free, veg. choice. The grave stones are under your feet. Open until 9 PM most nights. Also, they have a small, but nice gift shop. At Christmas time, wonderful card selection. Enjoy.
Kensington and Chelsea, London
A clean, well-appointed apartment in an excellent location. A short walk away from a tube (Underground) station, a supermarket, restaurants and take-aways. Taking the Underground from here to the heart of London and the main sites: Westminster, Picadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, West-end Theatres, Kew Gardens etc was simplicity itself. Even better, the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and V&A are just a short stroll away.
The location was great - close to Trafalgar Square and close to train stations and buses. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Staff were friendly but not very attentive when we needed help and didn't pass on a message.
The Strand Palace is in a great location. We were 2 mins to Charring Cross station and able to walk to trafalgar square, covent gardens, china town, and many other of London's attractions. The staff were all friendly and very helpful

Trafalgar square makes impression by giving sense of Great Empire, while monuments in front of parliament illustrate the way from empire to democracy.
Start walking from Westminster through Trafalgar Square up to Covent Garden calling into as many cultural destinations as you go.
