Admire the beautiful blue tiles depicting the Battle of Buçaco of 1810 led by Lord Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese Army. Some very interesting Indo-Portuguese furniture. There is a knight in armour at the top of the stairs.Great gardens. The Palace of Bussaco Hotel has it's own vineyard producing red and white wines which you won't find anywhere else. You can order a bottle whilst dining at the Hotel.
Ask for a room which overlooks the stunning gardens and reserve a table for dinner on the terrace immediately when you arrive as it gets booked up! This hotel Is a "little faded glory" but oh so worth visiting and staying! Take a walk in the morning through the wiods and reach the overlook!
Fun to stay in and explore this old palace and surrounding grounds and forest trails. Surprise buildings in the forest, one with amazing sculpture of Christ inside. Dinner and drinks a bit pricey, we went the 2 miles to town for dinner. Our gps didn't recognize this place, and Booking instructions were lacking. Go to Luso and head up hill till you see the sign.
We loved staying there!!! We just thought that putting better signaling would help beacuse the ones that exist are small and begin in a part of the forest that sometimes people are already lost. Bigger signs talking abaout the "Palace of Bussaco" would help more because we got confused if there were other hotels that those signs were pointing to.
