The villa was in a quiet part of town that you needed to take a taxi to/from panajachel. The property had stunning views of the lake (2 min walking distance) and the surrounding volcanos. The pool was very clean and there was a large hot/heated pool. Many sitting areas around the property and all of the staff were super helpful/friendly. The room was clean (no AC but it gets cold at night so probably not necessary), and the water pressure was excellent. Each room has a balcony.

The staff were so kind and helpful. I forgot my glasses in the hotel room an pd hadn’t realised, but they messaged me to let me know and I was able to retrieve them again. This is paradise on earth. One of the best places we’ve ever stayed and we’ve seen many. Location is great. Especially if you want to relax and get away from everything that hunts you in your everyday life. This is the northern part of zona hotelera so it’s a bit outside of the crowd and party zone of Tulum beach. This means that is the safest part to be in Tulum. But it also means that you’ll need a car or a taxi or even a bike to move outside the hotel. If this is all along your plan then this place is perfect. It’s a small secluded place of paradise. One of the big advantages is the Casa Maria restaurant which at your feet and offers one of the best foods and views in town with some lounge and live music every night. Oh we could spend here every night if we had the time. I also recommend the massage by the ocean. It’s one of the best I had in my life. The ladies were so professional. And lastly the service and the people working here are the best team. With Josmar especially we came to become friends and we’ll wait for him and his family to visit us anytime. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Service: I spent one night at Papaya Playa Project in a beautiful Casita with a rooftop pool, and it was truly unforgettable. There is something about this place that captures the authentic soul of Tulum. The sound of the waves, the scent of the jungle, and the warmth of the people blend perfectly to create an atmosphere that feels both wild and deeply peaceful. Watching the sunrise from my rooftop pool felt like witnessing the world come alive. The sea in front of me, the palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the soft rhythm of nature all around me created a feeling of pure magic. What I loved most about Papaya Playa Project is its energy. It is not just a hotel; it is a place that makes you feel part of Tulum itself. Everything here feels genuine, earthy, and real. It is a space to disconnect from everything and reconnect with yourself. My stay was short but soul-stirring. I left feeling renewed, inspired, and with a piece of this beautiful place forever in my heart.

It’s not a huge hotel in the area, but that’s what we liked - you can feel the personal touch. Also the restaurant at the beach was much better than any of the buffet style big restaurants elsewhere. Great effort for the halloween party and high-end experience in their Italian restaurant Chianti.

Take official taxi or Uber.

Take official taxi or Uber. The others are robbers, ecpecially at the airport. Car rental services are beyond horrible in the high season. Read the ratings. Its insane, that services this bad can continue to do business. They ignored my reservation and tried to upsell me another car with 10x the price. We used taxi's (official taxi and Uber) instead. Maya's, Valladolid, Xcaret are all nice and worth a visit.

Historical city with lots of wonderful restaurants featuring Yucatecan cuisine. I loved walking around the Municipal Market (Mercado)...so much to see and buy there Side trips to Valladolid and cenotes, and Xcambo and Xtampu were interesting and reasonably priced. I also took a cooking class from Sofia at her home...a fun day with excellent Yucatecan food.

Tulum could be an easy place to avoid.

Tulum could be an easy place to avoid. The sea beaches are mostly inaccessible and are not at all worth visiting. There are few Cenotes around that are really good. Rather spend time in Cancun (for sea beach) and multiple Mayan Archeological sites in Yucatán.

Volcano Views Epic.

Volcano Views Epic. Find accommodation with roof top for views of Volcano. People wonderful. Go to the Mercado Central (Market). Great places to eat, great place for digital nomads (Impact Hub). Perfect temperature. Not too warm, just need a few layers in the evening. Google maps top rating restaurants and they live up to their rating! Whole town walkable. Do the Acatenango hike, sleep up the mountain to watch the volcano (Fuego) and sun rise at the top. Don't worry about which agency to use. It's not a hike where they can deviate too much. But would recommend: Gilmor Soy Fuego Volcano Tour: https://soytours.com/en/.

getting too busy now with buses and traffic and more exhaust fumes.. getting very popular. the prices of everything now are way too high. Even the local artisans are charging crazy prices. they don't understand tourism. We used to buy a lot of treasures and art work. not any more. the prices are unrealistic. we travel all over mx and know what most things cost in the towns where they are made.

The beach is great! It is a perfect place to relax. The town is small but there are enough activities to do in the sea. We were there in high season, I am sure when there is less people is even more relaxing. The little town has good places to eat, no need to stick to the hotel food. Arriving to Holbox it is easy but still almost 3 hours away from Cancun airport, nice to spend at least 3 nights in the island.

We believe Bacalar has been a bit overrated by visitors.

We believe Bacalar has been a bit overrated by visitors. It’s a nice local town, but tourist facilities are limited. Public access to the lagoon is restricted, and hotels, restaurants, and cafés are expensive considering the level of service provided. Cenotes and Los Rápidos are far from downtown, and some facilities are mandatory even if you don’t really need them, such as life jackets etc. Overall, Cancun and Tulum are much better equipped for tourists and offer better value for the money.

A beautiful and atmospheric place surrounded by mountains, with friendly streets and good restaurants at fair prices. However, it’s very frustrating that the hiking trails are almost impossible to find; people come here to hike, yet the national park was closed. In the narrow streets, the car exhaust fumes linger, and it’s hard to breathe; the traffic is extremely heavy, even though the town could easily be explored on foot or by bike.
