- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 1,225 reviewsEverything was EXCELLENT! The whole resort is in a gorgeous location of a petit fishing village. There's a charming promenade by the water, lots of restaurants nearby. At the resort you have a free access to the indoor & outdoor pool, jacuzzi and 2 diferentes saunas and there's a lot of activities in the high season, would recommend for families with kids. Room was spacious and well equipped, very comfy bed. Very nice and helpful people at the reception. Can't wait to come back!Guest review byMartaSpain

Great party town but also great for families.
Great party town but also great for families. We went as a 4 (my wife and I and our two 17yo kids) and everyone had a great time. Beaches: Plenty of space to spread out. Plenty of beach clubs where you can hire beds and shades and plenty of beach bars to have a drink. Old town: Very clean and felt safe even during the night. It livens up the later it gets up until about 2am when things start closing. Restaurants serve food until about 11pm so be aware of that if you're heading out later. Live music in loads of places as well as the standard dj/spotify playlists. During the day it's a lot quieter but still everywhere open for food and drinks. There are loads of little shops to buy holiday souvenirs from as well. The Strip: This is for the kids (and by kids I mean 18-25 year olds). It's just a road of pubs and clubs with one half blocked off from traffic. Open till 6am. We went, sat outisde and watched the fun unfold over a couple of beers while our kids went off and had a great time. Loads of offers for cheap drinks (especially earlier in the evening) but even once happy hour had finished it was still only 5 euro a pint. Probably a 30 minute walk from the old town. Other: Aldi, Lidl and a local supermarket are all on the main road to the north of the town that runs parallel to the beach. Aldi and Lidl are next door to each other and are about a 5-10 minute walk from the old town. The other one (Pingo Doce) is a 5-10 minute walk from the top of the strip. Uber is available and on a par with UK prices.Guest review byGarethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Small and perfectly formed, good location for ferries to the Ria Formosa islands, and Praia Faro beach Cute little old town, good range of restaurants to satisfy all tastes, good transport to and from airport, train services to other towns along Algarve coast For boat trips go along to the yellow house further to the east of the marina and look for all the HOHO and ferry providers. Do not fall for the "group trips" by the central marina - there are many more much better value providers where the ferries depart from! The HOHO to the 3 islands for 35 euros is very good value, valid all day until the final ferry goes back to Faro, and great fun in the bright yellow RIB boats Just be aware that all pavements throughout the old town (sidewalks for the US readers) are all of very shiny stones, little cubes set into cement, which can be very slippery, and therefore not very accessible for those with mobility difficulties. However with a slowed walking pace, they are totally manageable, and obviously you can see more of the town at a slower walk! Roads themselves are cobbled, so use of scooters or push bikes could find it hard going.Guest review byNinaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A lovely town about an hours drive from Porto airport: a good base to explore further into the algarve (and the west coast). But it’s also a charming place that manages to expertly balance a sense of its history with the need to cater to tourists. I loved it!Guest review byMcGonigleUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The access the majority of the local beaches is via ferry or boat taxi. There is a beach about 20 minutes away you can drive to and park but it can get extremely busy. I think our preference is to be able to access the beach without having to take a ferry or water taxi. Having said that, the beaches are very clean and water is beautiful. The umbrellas and sun chairs are pretty pricey.Guest review byBrownUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Very nice area, I especially liked the marina and enjoyed walking along the sea front. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and nice walk to near by locations along beach. Visited the fish market in Quarteira which was very bust and an experience, there was a fruit and vegetable market also.Guest review byKilrushIreland - 8.0

Alvor is a fairly small resort, made up of a series of small fairly narrow walkways that are lined with the various restaurants, bars, and small shops. Most of the streets / walkways lead down to the seafront where you find the main three or four fish restaurants, that cook up the catch if the day, for the hundreds of locals, and tourists that decend into the area each evening. Alvor is very family friendly, there are no hen or Stagg parties, and no groups of people singing their favourite football chant from the outside of bars. There are families walking round of an evening, deciding where to eat enjoying their break away, removed from the normal treadmill of life. So great relaxing location, lots of places to eat and drink, in a small fairly compact location,.Guest review byPhilipUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Carvoeiro is a great place to use as a base camp, especially for families looking to see the area. The boardwalk is awesome and we explored the caves and jumped from one of the cliffs. We went on the sunrise kayak tour from Carvahlo beach to see Benagil cave, which was amazing and ended up spending the whole day at Carvahlo Beach. Silvas is close by and worth a day trip as well.Guest review byjohnnieUnited States - 10.0

A beautiful town with everything you need on a family holiday all within an easy walk of most accommodation. Not too busy which was an added bonus and the locals are all very friendly. A stunning beach and plenty of local attractions that will immerse you in the history of the area and Portugal. A visit to the fort is a must for history buffs and watching the sunset at the lighthouse is essential.Guest review byAndrewNew Zealand - 10.0
