Bathrooms were clean and the shower room was large and comfortable. The room atmosphere was very comfortable and the view of the garden was special. It was nice to have tea and coffee and look at the garden at night. Staff was very helpful and kind and a money change machine was helpful in the lobby.

The stay exceeded our expectations. The location was convenient, the room was wonderful (and much larger than it appeared in the pictures), and the futon beds were comfortable. We also appreciated the helpful and accommodating staff, and enjoyed relaxing in the onsen. We would absolutely stay here again.

What a great service, what a great place, what a great breakfast 🙏 The room we stayed was Momo It was nice decorated and enough for three The room and bathroom was super clean. The bathroom was little narrow but it is perfectly fine for us. The breakfast was mix of eastern and western and it was fullfilling. By the way the breakfast is a big plus because you dont spend time to go for breakfast and even to think of where to eat. The staff was professional, super kind and lovely. The location is very close to a bus stop where you can easily go to the most common spots by using them. Finally, We loved our stay here and recommend to anyone seeking a japanese ryokan experience and meet with great staff. Life is an experience and this was a great experience for me and my family 🙏

Wonderful staff, they knew who we were and included our son in on conversations about how the day went. Our son loved that they said hi to him and he got to practice his Japanese. Very helpful on finding places and best way to get there. Didn't feel like a huge hotel but very private and safe. Room was very clean and spacious feeling. Bathroom very clean and fabulous shower with great water pressure.

A truly phenomenal experience that got us fully submerged us into the Japanese culture. The 19 century building is beautifully decorated and very comfortable, and having a view and access to a lovely garden is a very nice touch. The ryokan's staff is one of the highlights, everybody was always kind and professional, and we were personally supported by one of the kindest person we ever met - she made our stay not only comfortable but was very kind and shared with us many things about her culture and experience, even going out of her way and teaching us how to fold orizuru origami when she learnt we would be visiting Hiroshima after leaving Kyoto. Visiting the public baths was also a great experience. The kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast were also excellent.

Simply stunning. Lovely to stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn. Our lady was exceptional, giving first class treatment in talking us through many dishes she served, constantly topping our water, cleaning our teapot. V filling so be warned and you get to try things you wouldn’t get these days or in chain hotels. The onsen was a relief from the long journey. The futons v comfy. It was so unique to switch off, enjoy tranquility.

An authentic ryokan, in a building that's probably well over 100 years old. The rooms have tatami mats and futons and the onsen is beautiful. It's like staying in someone's home! This is not a super-swish modern hotel, so if that's what you want go elsewhere, but if you want a place with real character, staffed by people who treat you as long-lost friends, then this is the place for you. We will certainly return next time we're in Kyoto.

If you want to spend a few nights in a real ryokan (not the edulcorated-for-tourist replicas), this might be the real deal. Wooden and paper panels, tatami, futons, internal garden, traditional shower, in-room tea-set, yukatas, and many other details. My kids (14 and 11 y.o) said this was the best hotel in our 3-weeks-trip throughout Japan. The staff is very kind and eager to make your stay great.
