Beautifully decorated ryokan, lovely rooms with locally crafted furniture. Breakfast was expensive but well worth it if you haven’t tried the local Takayama delicacies before. Staff spoke great English as well.

The Iroriyado Hidaya was the last stop on our two-week vacation in Japan, and it was by far the best! The warm welcome (incl. tea and tailored recommendations for exploring Takayama), the fantastic breakfast (Hoba Miso!), the Irori & Kotatsu in our room and the private baths made our stay in beautiful Takayama perfect. And when there was no taxi available immediately after checkout, staff even drove us to the station. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!

We loved the subtile and tasteful architecture of the place. Everything was beautiful in its simplicity. The private onsen was fantastic especially with the forest in the background. We absolutely loved this Ryokan and stayed here for multiple nights. The reasons why we loved this place and plan to come back are: (1) LOCATION! Easy to find, its just a straight 15min walk from the station on the main road and tucked in a quiet alley way by the river. Its across the river (1min walk) from the Morning Market and close to all the main sights + restaurants. Cannot get any better than this. Side note: after breakfast walk to the morning market and buy some warm pudding from the street vendor - its home made. My only regret is not eating more of it. (2) ROOM! The beds are comfortable and rooms are big. The views from the rooms are amazing. (3) FOOD! Food is delicious - we highly recommend getting the breakfast and dinner sets if possible. They change the menu each day. Its a very traditional setting with lots of great food - you will not be hungry afterwards. (4) ONSEN! The onsen in this Ryokan is the best. Very clean and comfortable. (5) STAFF! Service is 10 out of 10. The owners and staff are so kind, they will set your room each night and leave some tea + snacks in your room to unwind when you get back from walking around town. They greeted us with a green tea ceremony. They are wonderful.

The dinner was huge, fresh and delicious. We also appreciated the traditional breakfast of local foods. The onsens were beautiful and the staff was so kind and caring. I was pleased that I got to choose my yukata. We loved every moment of our stay and left feeling incredibly relaxed.

The ultimate choice for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience! We had a room with Tatami mats and futon beds, a private bathroom and we got to wear Yukatas in and out of the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with whatever we needed and breakfast was also great (Both the Japanese and European one). The Train and Bus stations were just 2 minutes walking distance. Thanks for everything!

Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.

Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. We can highly recommend and would love to come back!

Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
