The Jewel of the Amalfi Coast

Positano is a colourful Italian town in the Campania region, near Naples. Overlooking the turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, this seaside paradise is home to traditional terracotta houses on a steep hill and a small marina with fishing boats.

Set on the Amalfi Coast, between the Lattari Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, the holiday resort of Positano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient Roman architecture. Featuring white, pink and yellow houses, this place will amaze you with its pebble beaches and narrow streets with little steps.

Built in 1920, the old church of Santa Maria Assunta with the imposing dome is one of the main landmarks of the city. According to the legend, sailors brought the Byzantine icon of the Madonna after their ship got stopped in Positano and heard a voice saying ‘stop, stop, stop’.

The village of Montepertuso is a place 1000 metres above the sea level, with a stunning rock.Travellers can also take the ferry to Capri and Ischia.

Positano is definitely great for the traveler who is interested in taking gorgeous photos and picturesque views. It is also great for exercise as there is no shortage of stairs and walking trails to get from place to place. The town of Positano is quite small and very walkable from one end to the other and getting to other towns on the Amalfi Coast is very easy using the ferry. However, the Amalfi Coast in general is very expensive and overall the food scene is quite mediocre. The best meals we had were at Mediterraneo and Lo Guarrancino. Also the fried squash blossoms at Cafe Positano were surprisingly very good. Everywhere else we ate in Positano was just okay or bad. My stay was 5 days but I would recommend no more than 3 days for future travelers.

Stunning views unlike any other place. Definitely recommend Positano as a base for your Amalfi vacation as it is in the center of everything and make other excursions easily accessible and so fun to explore after the day trippers are gone.

The beauty of the town is unreal, but it is built on steep hillsides which means that narrow roads and switch backs are not recommended for the unseasoned driver not used to such terrain. If you're not in shape when you get there, you will be by time you leave. There are many, many, many steps and paths around the town. It's very picturesque but also very demanding physically. Probably not the best town for the elderly or those with physical challenges. Taxi's are the best mode of transportation though there is a good local bus system however, busses only come by hourly, and because of the congrestion they are rarely on time.

The views of Positano are amazing . Everyone is really friendly and the food amazing . You need to be fit to get up and down the hills and steps. One of the most stunning places I've ever visited.

One of the most stunning places I've ever visited. Relatively unspoilt as it's difficult to reach and very expensive. Felt like an exclusive holiday location. Colourful buildings springing out of the hills, beautiful climate and STUNNING flora and fauna. All in all, one feels like one has been dropped into paradise on earth. Visiting in April is to be recommended as it feels neither too hot nor too crowded. I can't sing its praises enough. Travelling can be tricky if you have older people in your party - almost every route around the town involves steep steps. Spoilt for choice in terms of eating - we didn't have a bad meal. Shout out to Il Capitano (higher end) and Il Fornillo (slightly more reasonably priced). Recommend day trips to Pompeii and Vesuvius, the Amalfi coast (from Positano to Maiori), boat trip to Capri and Anacapri, and Sorrento.

The best run hotel in Positano. Francesca and her fabulous family take great care of you while you are their guests. They go above and beyond. The room was very large, the bed was comfortable and the best part was the view of the Sea and the Cathedral from your terrace. You are located right in the middle of Positano, but there is no city noise. We slept like a baby. Steps from all the best restaurants, shops and a short walk down to the beach and marina. Incredible location for a reasonable price. Right on the beach and in the heart of Positano. The hotel is minimally staffed and does not have a front desk, which was no problem for us at all but I guess could be for others. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had a magnificent view of the water with a small balcony. A/C worked great. Stay here if you want to be in the heart of things and don't expect to need extensive concierge services. Don't stay here if you want a lot of assistance with your trip.

The Location was perfect providing the best view. We always enjoyed the walk down to the beach, and the morning view of Positano from room's balcony. We had our cat with us, the staff was familiar in how to deal with the cat, offering to clean the room in unusual times, when we take the cat out with us, so the cat doesn't get afraid or run away. The staff in all were always ready to help and friendly. We enjoyed the trip as a whole, surely we will be back in Positano, and for sure in the same Hotel.

EVERYTHING! the views, the property, the rooms and the service were all top notch! We are not easily impressed and we were simply amazed. It was an unforgettable experience. Completely worth the money. We can’t wait to go back. The breakfast might have been one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had, including executive floors. The 5-7pm wine time was a lovely touch. The staff could not have been nicer. You’re close enough to town square but not in the middle of the chaos of Positano in June.

The staffs were all really nice and helpful. Breakfast was amazing ! Lots of varieties and the fruits change everyday :) The tableware made us feel the perfect positano vibe. The owner's brother's resto right below the hotel was a plus. One thing is, on Google map, it says like 10mins from the ferry harbour. But you need to consider that Google map does not count the stairs..... so it tajes actually 20~25mins as you will want to use an actual road, not just crazy stiff stair way.

We had an excellent stay at Casa Caprile. The room was clean and comfortable but by far the best thing about the property is the friendly and helpful staff, who helped us make the most of our time in Positano. Breakfast can be taken in the sister hotel (Il Gabbiano) just over the road - the views are fantastic here, such a nice start to the day! I’d recommend this place to anyone who doesn’t mind a short walk into the centre of Positano, who can handle some stairs!

The location is right on the beach, bit further back from the water and the room itself was beautiful. The ferry is the best way to arrive and you can see the hotel as you pull up. They have deck chairs outside of the hotel free of use, but the chairs across the path at the front belong to the beach club and cost €35. Rosa was a great host and always checked on us!
