The hotel was a combination of classic Old World charm with all of the modern amenities you could ask for. The main bar was very lively and felt like stepping back in time, and the servers were excellent and very adept at the creating cocktails. The access to the spa was an additional bonus that we were not expecting and a great place to relax during the middle of our vacation.

FAQs about hotels in Cascais

Laid-back Suburban Beach Resort

Cascais is a small city located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Once a fishing village and defence outpost, the royalty transformed it into a stylish summer resort. Mixing beautiful beaches, elegant mansions, imposing fortifications, and a wide variety of hotels, Cascais is a great option for every season.

King Luís II used the city as his summer residence from 1870 to 1908, attracting other celebrities, and changing the destiny of the tranquil village forever. Modern roads and railway lines linking to Lisbon and Sintra were built, as well as a casino and other facilities. Some of the best hotels and 5-star resorts in Cascais date back to these times.

Nowadays, the town is a cosmopolitan beach retreat along the Estoril Coast, where people from Lisbon and other Portugal cities come for a day or weekend escapade. Many foreign tourists prefer its more relaxed hotels over the sometimes hectic Lisbon atmosphere.

Don’t miss the Citadel, rebuilt during the 16th century in a typical star-shaped Renaissance style. Other attractions include the Museum of the Sea and the ‘Paula Rego House of Stories’.

Beach hotels are the gem of Cascais and you can find a wide range on Booking.com. Check your availability with enough time in advance, as the city remains a popular summer destination.

The hotel Vila Gale is approximately a 10 minute walk from Cascais centre where the restaurants and bars are. It was a great hotel for the pool as not many in Cascais have a large pool like this hotel does. It was great having use of the electric scooters to get to and from the hotel. Bring cash as a lot of the shops are cash only!

It's an amazing, vibrant city close to Lisbon. It has it's charm, felt very cozy, with nice people, beaches, coastal walks and other cities, such as Sintra nearby. We've also went to Cabo da Roca, the most western part of continental Europe and the views are spectacular!

Our initial plan was to stay 2n and move to the next town, but we stayed for extra 3n in Cascais. It's a lovely, very vibrant city full of various attractions, restaurants and nice people. We visited beaches, rented a bicycle. The city has very easy connection with Lisbon, about 45min train ride. You can feel there's a lot of wealth in the city, and the quality of stay here is very high. Highly recommended.

    I am very disappointed.

I am very disappointed. The apartment is nothing like the photos...old and smelly. Very low maintenance to the property. There was a mole at the bathroom and a lot of Flys at the bath and washroom. The smell was awful of some very harsh cleaning liquid mixed with mole smell. They just took a very poor condition apartment and painted everything in white but it is still old and smelly ...painted the mole as well but you could still see and smell it

Location was very good as it is central to Cascais. Service was pretty good with lots of the staff being very attentive. Hotel externally was extremely impressive as it is the old citadel for the town right by the marina and has impressive views. The room did not have a sra view. Overall ir was the right place to stay but had a few negatives but it is more of a good 4 star hotel than a 5 star. We have stayed in a number of hotels elsewhere and this idod not give me the wow factor internally. But it is a unique setting externally.

The bed was comfortable, the outdoor pool was heated (which was good because the weather was raining and 15 degrees, but we were still able to swim!), and the breakfast was probably one of the best we had on our trip (I think this was due to the fact that it was more of a 'boutique' hotel setting than a larger hotel so there were better quality items available). The staff were all very lovely and kind. The room didn't have a fridge, but they let me store my medicine in the fridge in the kitchen.

Smashing Boutique Hotel right in the heart of Cascais stumbling distance to the shops, restaurants, marina and beaches. The rooms were large and comfortable, the staff were friendly and really helpful and the terrace was the best place in Cascais to have a drink in the sun and watch the world go by. We also liked that the restaurant & terrace was only open to hotel guests Monday and Tuesday so it guarantees some space to relax and chill. Great place.

Casa Vela is a beautiful little hotel tucked away in a residential street just a few moments away from the city center of Cascais. The facilities are exceptionally well maintained and the garden out the back is a little oasis of tranquility. The staff were exceptionally attentive throughout our entire stay and were able to cater to any and every request we had, however big or small. I couldn’t recommend this hotel more, I will definitely be back.

Fizu is one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet. He was kind, warm, welcoming and had lots of tips and ideas. He tries to turn his hotel/hostel into a family house, and we think he completely succeeded. The rooms are nice. Breakfast buffet is excellent. There's even a small pool and several lounge areas. The location is great both for enjoying Cascais and exploring Lisbon, as the city center and the train station are within 10 minutes.

Cascais is beautiful and the hotel is in a great position, close to the train station, beach and all the stores and restaurants. Goncalo, who welcomed and assisted us during our stay was great, very friendly and helpful and offered many recommendations. Definitely the best experience in a long time and we travel a lot!

Choosing this pleasant and luxury hotel for my birthday celebration was absolutely a success: The receptionists, being friendly and helpful (switching smoothly from one language to another) are very impressive; the bread at the breakfast was the best one could desire for and the Menu of the Chef at dinner was very innovative and delicious. All the arrangements made for the birthday were very pleasant and heartwarming.

Staff was extremely helpful in several cases and very friendly. Location is superb. Food was excellent. We appreciate the very early morning “breakfast boxes” to accommodate our 6:30am departure time. We also appreciate the cleanliness and amenities of the hotel and room. Our best place to stay in Portugal after 2-1/2 weeks of traveling the country.

The Pergola is gem. The best option in Cascais by far. The walk to the beach is almost too short to enjoy the village streets. Gelato and Pastries in the same block as the Hotel! The preservation of the historic mansion's interiors and furnishings is a special feature. You can imagine yourself living there in it's prime.
