FAQs about hotels in Oban

Gateway to the Inner Hebrides

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.

The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.

Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.

Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

It's a lovely place to visit and plenty of opportunity to sail over to Mull etc.Good eating places but book in advance Ee Usk and Piazza lovely views over the water.Dont forget .On a Sunday trains back to Glasgow are few and we had a long queue to get onto a two carriage train. Most people had booked their seats but the others stood for 3 and a half hours back to Glasgow.

Oban itself was lovely but the surrounding area, Mull, Appin, Loch Milfort, Dalvalich was stunning. I was only a little disappointed that the car ferry to Mull was too small and I was not able to take my car across.

Lively town with excellent shops and a good base for exploring the area and travelling by ferry to the islands, especially Mull and iona. Unfortunately, the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service appears to be in some disarray at the moment, but with a bit of planning we managed all we set out to do.

Oban was fine I'm a regular visitor, once a week, hotel should get its people skills sorted out and realise that when an 81 year old sick customer has to pay out twice for one room ,it doesn't make friends (who live locally)

Oban is great place for a relaxing short break. Bring a warm jacket though as the location gets cold winds. If you like fresh seafood you will enjoy the restaurants which provide lots of fresh seafood. You can also walk to most attractions easily and there are lots of ferries for day trips to the islands.

    Great place to visit.

Great place to visit. Loved the walk up to the faux Roman Ruin. Was catching the ferry to Colansay but would have liked time to visit more of the excellent eateries. Was able to buy a lovely silver ring from 'Scottish Island Jewellery' (23 Argyll Square) made in the shop by the man who sold it to me.

We stayed for two nights. As we had to leave early on the first day in order to catch the ferry to the Isle of Mull the young proprietor offered to provide a packed lunch (or breakfast) and leave it in the fridge for us. Very considerate, thank you! Dinner would have been possible but we had made other arrangements in Oban, instead. We did have a drink in the hotel bar, though! Breakfast the next morning rich and satisfactory.

The staff were very engaging and friendly. The hotel grounds are stunning Near enough to Oban (short car journey) but far away enough to enjoy the peace and tranquility. View from the front of the hotel on to the lake was fantastic. Food was excellent. Staff were very patient with my nervy (and loud) dog. The interior of the reception etc. was absolutely superb.

Great location, our Seaview double room was bigger than expected with excellent views over Oban harbour. The room looked recently renovated with a super king bed and modern shower room and had everything we needed. Joemar and all the other staff we met were extremely friendly and helpful.
