- From $223.72 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 302 reviewsWe had an incredible stay—everything from start to finish was thoughtful and seamless. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle from the station, which made our arrival stress-free. Upon check-in, we were welcomed with a cold drink and a traditional Japanese sweet, along with salt candies thoughtfully placed on the table—perfect for the summer heat. The check-in process was the best we've ever experienced: we sat comfortably in the lounge, which offers a stunning view, while a staff member kindly walked us through all the information in detail. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, complete with a private bathroom and a small terrace with real green grass overlooking Tatadohama Beach. It was a truly peaceful and scenic space to unwind. Dinner and breakfast were both exquisite. The staff provided English explanations for each course, making the experience even more enjoyable and accessible. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for exceptional hospitality, comfort, and a memorable seaside escape.Guest review bySvetlanaJapan
- From $686.08 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 98 reviewsFrom the moment of arrival to drop off at train station, top class treatment throughout. It’s a historic, well-established hotel nestled in a quiet forest catering to celebrities and well-heeled travelers since 1894. Service and meal offerings were spectacular; the rooms modern and well-appointed, on par with any four-and five star hotels. Something that really caught my attention was the cushioned floors in the room; walking on them gave a level of comfort I’ve not felt at other hotels. And end your day at the iconic bar where John Lennon entertained those gathered on that piano when he stayed here.Guest review byEdwinUnited States
- From $165.72 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 2,567 reviewsThe room was ryokan style with plenty of room and clean. The bedding mattress & pillow was comfortable. Got a massage after taking advantage of the onsen which was great after a full day of sightseeing. Had a buffet breakfast that offered a good variety of food options, both Japanese and Western for a reasonable rate on our departure morning. The location was easy walking distance from Takayama train terminal & a free shuttle service to the Hotel & terminal was available.Guest review byStevenUnited States
- From $149.15 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very Good - What previous guests thought, 105 reviewsThe rustic cottage is in beautiful area and very clean and comfortable. The host and his wife were wonderful and so hospitable. They are some of the nicest people we have met on our trip! They even came to pick us up at the station and drove us to a late lunch after when they found out we had a long day and hadn’t eaten. We also enjoyed the peaceful surroundings! Thank you so much for making our stay for our son’s graduation at ISAK even more memorable😃Guest review byIreneUnited States

Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping.
Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping. LOTS of great restaurants. There's the science museum, the Toyota museum, and Nagoya Castle. No "authentic" neighborhoods to explore, though there is an ethnic shopping street near Kamimaezu Station. There are lots of traditional Japanese coffee shops "kissaten" to relax in if that's your thing. If you venture away from downtown there are places like Shirotori Gardens or Arimatsu on the historical Tokaido Road which was a center of indigo dyeing. No restaurants though in the 800 m length of the neighborhood.Guest review byBalibari2015United States - 10.0
I loved that you could walk around the whole of Kanazawa.
I loved that you could walk around the whole of Kanazawa. There were so many interesting areas, good food and lots of history. It was a spacious town, with a mix of modern and old architecture. The proximity to other attractions and the mountains was also a bonus. It is easy to get to and I would highly recommend people visit.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.Guest review byMariaSpain - 10.0
Ropeway and boat trip was good.
Ropeway and boat trip was good. We hired bikes from Jays as they shut later than the others and went to the Chureito Pagoda, Fujisan World Heritage Center, and then cycled round the lake stopping at Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, Oishi Park and Yamanashi Gem Museum.Guest review byBerthaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.Guest review byrebeccaCanada - 8.0

I've been extremely lucky, I was in Niigata after a snowstorm and I found an amazing scenery of beaches under a white carpet. The fisherman market is an experience you should not miss, delicious food and crazy cheap bill. Try to drive the coastline!Guest review byMastershifuChina - 10.0

Absolutely loved Nagano, so friendly and clean and easy to get around. We lucked out and arrived when the the dance festival was on which was really fun. There are lovely restaurants, good shopping and it’s easy to get around. The old part of the town and the temple are beautiful. We took the bus to see the snow monkeys as well which was worth every penny, even though it was 30 degrees they were still in the onsen, it was magical!Guest review byPippaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia - 10.0

People there are very helpful and courteous. It is very clean, and uncongested. Quiet and peaceful, unlike the other cities. I highkt recommend pairing Toyama and Tetayama, i.e. 3 and 2 nights respectively . Simply amazing.Guest review byWangSingapore
