A modern hotel in a historic building, comfortable relatively spacious room, excellent breakfast. You can take several nice short walks in the gardens of the property, one leads to the ruins of the Furness Abbey. Make sure that the hotel does not host a wedding during your stay if you want to avoid loud music

    A lovely place to visit.

A lovely place to visit. Lots of good local shops, cafes and restaurants that were nearby. Buses 599 open top available to get to other places and train station with good connections if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed visiting Ambleside, Bowness, Coniston and Grasmere. We took a boat out on Windermere from Low Woods, the car ferry to Hawkeshead and the boat trip on Lake Coniston. A walk down to the lake directly from Windermere via Birthwaite Road leads you to two small jetties where people were swimming, paddle boarding and people watching. In Windermere, Home Ground Cafe is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to queue. Tillys bar did a good fish and chips. Cafe Italia for pizza etc.

Well located for Windermere and lots of other destinations because of the good bus routes. It was very clean and the restaurants were very good. Ambleside had plenty going on and it was easy to walk to Lake Windermere and the local park had tennis courts and crazy golf. Shelia’s restaurant and Matthew’s were extremely good so was the fine chocolate shop.

so many many little independent shops hidden away in alleyways, and squares. Don't be deceived by just driving through the town - there is so much to see and explore behind the facades you first see. Plenty of hidden car parks too, which are well signposted

Kendal is a beautiful and historic market town with lots of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. It's got a great library for rainy days and there's lots of fascinating old alleyways and buildings to enjoy. We loved eating at the Brewery Arts Centre in the evening and also the brilliant Comida Spanish tapas cafe just down from the arts centre. Kendal is a great place to use as a base to explore the Lakes.
