FAQs about hotels in Budapest

A City of Two Halves

With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.

Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try them than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.

To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

With an impressive range of Budapest hotels, apartments and hostels available in this city of 2 halves, Booking.com makes it an easy choice.

We loved going to the Szechenyi Thermal Spa & also enjoyed a sunset river cruise on the Danube. We had a fascinating time visiting Memento Park. We were very impressed by the fact that as we were both over the age of 65, all public transport in Budapest was free

I stayed in the city for 6 nights. This is too much to spend only in the city. Better to spend 3-4 nights in the city and the remainder at lake Balaton or take day trip to Esztergom or Vienna, or something like this.

There is way too much to see and do in Budapest.

There is way too much to see and do in Budapest. Food, fun, and culture are everywhere. Most of the people can speak English which is helpful. If you can learn the trains and buses you will have a better time getting around. But a great pair of walking shoes is best to see everything. Only use taxies that are clearly marked with the rules and pricing displayed. Most stores opened at 10 so you can rest in the morning.

Budapest is a beautiful city, very vibrant, has plenty of coffees, bars, restaurants and live music places. Our favourite restaurants were "Vakvarju" and the "Mazel Tov". Do not miss to visit the Chain bridge, Buda Castle, Fisherman's bastion, Hungarian Parliament with the shoes nearby, Heroes Square, House of Terror museum and any Spa you are fancy. First Sunday of the month lost of museums are free. Do not buy the Budapest pass it is too expensive. Buy single tickets instead. Travel is very easy with public transport even from the airport just but tickets in 10 blocks. You need two tickets per person to get to the city centre (200E bus and change to the tube from Kobanya Kispest) but if you stay in the centre you can walk everywhere.

This was not my first stay in Budapest, but this trip in August 2025 has been too touristically busy for me to enjoy it. I loved Budapest before, and my view of it has declined after this visit. Every place was just too crowded, there were lines everywhere, you had to book each lunch or dinner during the weekend to have a seat at a decent restaurant - I really don't like it when places become this overhyped and too popular. This ruined my experience during the trip. Also, parking was more complicated than before (you can only park for up to 3 hours on the street, while finding parking garages is complicated and pricy), and there are 10-15% service fees now added to each restaurant or cafe visit, which was not the case before Covid.

I’ve visited Budapest many times and stayed at different hotels and hostels, but Hillside apartments has been the best accommodation I stayed in Budapest so far. Everything is super clean (the bathroom, the bed linen, towels etc.), the neighbourhood is really quiet, and we also had a balcony to enjoy our morning coffee. Bus stop is nearby, you can reach the city centre in 30 min. I totally recommend this peace for the excellent quality-price ratio! The host is also very kind and considerate (thank you Balazs!)

Nice place with excellent breakfast and beautiful patio, professional service and Corner for kids as well as high chairs which we as parents appreciated a lot. They have garage, 25eur for 24h. Hotel is well maintained and looks nice. It's around 25-30min walk to city centre. Place was comfy for sleeping which is what we craved after few days on the road. Also it was very clean. Few bugs entered but that's issue in Budapest generally on every place I ever stayed there.

All good for family with kids booking the family room with a separate sleeping room. It’s a very good price level. Location is easy via metro M4 and ideal for people coming by car as it’s just outside city centre and no traffic issues. ;) Breakfast is good. All in all what we need to stay a night or two in Budapest.
