We enjoyed our stay as a family with two young children. This is a clean and recently renovated hotel, conveniently located. Rooms were clean and well equipped for a family with kids: microwave, mini fridge, bath. We requested a mini crib when booking and the staff promptly set it up in our room. Breakfast was buffet style and was good, with quite some options to choose from. There was plenty of parking available and EV chargers as well.

Well located and easy access near main highway. Very quiet area. Lots of parking. King room well divided and spacious with bar fridge and microwave. Room is divided so living room separate from bedroom far enough not to disturb late sleeper. Modern bathroom with spacious shower. Room and hotel is super clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. We would absolutely come back here again.

A Symbol of Canadian Pride

On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.

Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.

The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.

The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.

    Disappointed that Ottawa Parliament was under massive construction. We enjoyed ByWay Market, the food and the bakery. Loved the changing of the guard and the parade before. The people in Ottawa are very friendly and try to help us find our way around the city. We booked our tickets from home to tour the Senate and the East Block guided tours and the Immersive Experience. These were all free tours, we just needed to book them when we did - before our trip from home.

    Difficult to navigate, too many one ways, and lots of "no left" turns . We had booked the Ottawa boat cruise , but due to this issue could not find the dock, missed the boat and no refund for that. Next time...take uber !!

    Depending on personal tastes, consider the following: 1) Tour Parliament 2) Visit the Museum of Canadian History 3) Visit the National Gallery We used the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus, which was a great way to see the city without a car. We also tried the Ottawa River cruise. Comparing both, we felt that we saw more on the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus. Eat at Milestones Restaurant's outdoor courtyard--great menu and service.

    Walking and finding the non-touristy areas gives a feel for a city. The Holocaust Memorial is outstanding as is Kiweki Point for very different reasons. Signposting is minimal and so navigating underpasses and closures due to construction on foot is challenging at times. Ottowa Art Gallery showcases Canadian and local art. Well worth a visit. Buses are free for over 65's Wednesday and Saturday.

    We enjoyed several free museums and art galleries, and were able to use our AGO membership to get into the National Gallery. We spent most of our meals in the Byward Market, which was a pleasure to visit. Ottawa is easy to get around in, unless you happen to arrive between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm on a business day, when left turns and right turns are severely restricted!
