Los Bastimentos is so much nicer than Bocas, I would greatly recommend staying here instead of on Isla Colon. A real Carribean feel, friendly inhabitants, not overly touristy. Excellent snorkelling just a watertaxi-ride away at Hospital Point.

I like all the island nearby that all had uniqueness and individual charm. We visited 7 various spots and stayed in 4 islands accommodations. All seemed to be noisy at night with either jungle animal sounds, local bars blasting music or boat traffic. Day time hammock naps are a must!

We liked the snorkeling adventure, but with high surf some of the better snorkeling spots were off limits. If snorkeling is high on your list, be sure to allow for the proper time of year with more calm seas. We saw several sloths on sloth island during a tour and on Bastimentos. We enjoyed the natural beauty of red frog beach and playa bluff. When going to playa bluff, take the local shuttle or taxi as the roads are challenging.

Basti was fantastic.
Basti was fantastic. The people are so friendly and the island has such a laid back atmosphere. There are no cars on the island, which I thought was awesome. You get a real feel for the culture here, while also getting a nice beach getaway. We stayed in Old Bank, so we enjoyed watching the boats and locals. Definitely bring more cash than you expect though, most hostels on the island don't accept credit cards, and to get anywhere by boat costs money, as well as entry to the beaches. We blew through our remaining cash quite quickly, and there are no ATM's on Basti.

Bastimientos is easy to access from Bocas Town by boat taxi, but it is a different world... much quieter and more basic and natural, with good access to lovely beaches. Bastimientos is the option in Bocas if you want something quieter and more simple.

I stayed, relaxed, ate and drank at Palmar Beach Lodge and I have to say, one of my favourite places so far. The atmosphere was very relaxing, great staff and a big shout out to Jimmy, the best waiter/barman/entertainer!
I stayed in an 8 person dorm, had a great bad, no troubles sleeping and the beautiful beach is just waiting for you to get out of bed. I stayed for 7 nights, which was a little too long in my opinion, as there are many islands around that I could have also explored, however, the regular trips organised by the Palmar Crew (also a super friendly and nice bunch of people) made up for my lack of pre-planning. Greetings to the entire team and hopefully see you again in the future at some point.
Glamping in a jungle near a beautiful Caribbean white sand beach. The food was excellent with happy hours between 5 to 7 pm where the beers and mixed drinks were a great value. We especially like the variety of local and global travelers that visited and frequented there. The bathing and restroom facilities were clean and accessible. We enjoyed excursions to other islands that can be booked at the counter. They do have filtered drinkable water locations for filling water bottles.
The food was incredible. Chef Victoria did an incredible job taking the food from the jungle and turning it into a fabulous meal. We also loved that they delivered chocolate tea first thing in the morning to enjoy in our hotel room. The property was gorgeous and incredibly well built. Additionally, the wild life was incredible. We saw at least a dozen capucin monkeys from our hotel room. We were overcharged but Jose gave us a refund. Thanks to the staff for an incredible honeymoon.
Ataraxia was the best place we stayed in Panama. It was so nice, quiet and relaxing. The bungalows are more uphill and in the jungle, with fantastic views. We also had some nice dinners in the restaurant. The transport with watertaxis is easy and you can also walk to Old Banks when the waterlevel is not too high. We borrowed kayaks and went kayaking to Isla Solarte and along the mangroves. Beautiful. The owners Pierre and Manon are so friendly and helpful.
I loved the location, near Wizard Beach, which you can reach via an amazing walk in the forest. The town of Bastimentos is also super pretty and gives you a taste of Caribbean Island culture. I loved the wooden deck on the water with hammocks. I loved being able to cook my own food in the kitchen. I loved my single room, it was clean and pretty. Alos, Mr. Archibold and his staff were extremely helpful every day setting up transport and tours.
The room and the private deck are wonderful. The view is beautiful. You can freely use the kayaks and explore the waters where dolphins swim which is pretty nice. The boat ride to Bocas town or Old Banks is short so it’s easy to go out for dinner and drinks. We did a boat tour to the Zapatilla islands and dolphin bay which was nice.
The owners are very helpful in arranging anything you need like water taxi’s or dinner reservations.
Beautiful hut with direct access to water and a fresh water shower on our porch. A dream come true! The staff is very attentive and super nice (just to name a few: JJ and Alejandro!). There is a beautiful little nature reserve which belongs to the hotel and we saw caimans, red frogs, multiple sloths and other fun stuff. The hotel is close to Old Bank which is great for food and a stroll! We will definitely come back!
The location and service at Carmen's Place are superb. A relaxed and calm hotel offering you rest and leisure is situated across the water from the nightlife and is convenient accessible by water taxis. As you watch the dolphins and sunset from the dock chairs.. The chef Carmen will serve you delicious meals and beverages. A must stay for short trips or a much needed
Vacation of rest!
Charming and quite place to stay between the jungle and the sea, with a cute little private pier on beautiful and wild Bastimentos Island. Carmen, Marcel and their staff are exceptionaly nice and friendly, as well as very good cooks (the breakfast was the best we had during our trip in Panama). I fully recommand!
Palmar is a spectacular place with accommodation directly in the jungle, a nice restaurant and direct access to the beach. The staff is very well trained, they all speak English (which is not common in Panama, sadly) and are always interested in how can improve things in order to make your staying more pleasant.
Very cosy rooms with a nice common space with restaurant and great view. Rooms are being cleaned every day and there’s warm water on a bathroom. if you stay here, you must try delicious homemade food served in the restaurant downstairs. The best food in whole Panama!
The Honeymoon Bungalow was absolutely beautiful and very comfortable, and it was fantastic being able to go for a swim off of the deck, lay in the hammock, borrow kayaks, and walk into Old Bank. The staff were absolutely exceptional in every way.
Excellent location away from the hustle and bustle, right on the water's edge. Very friendly host who provided hi own entertainment in the evening! Hammocks available to lounge on the deck. Good place to start exploring the island of Bastimentos.
On top of a hill with a 360 degree view of the Caribbean. So beautiful! Liked being away from the tourists and hanging out with the locals. Property manager Didier was very friendly and helpful to communicate with.
Staff was helpfull and nice. Common areas are great, big kitchen, well equiped, great view of the sea. Rooms are spacious and clean. Boats can leave you/pick up right on the hotel if you ask
Simple. Good aircon. Nice location to explore Bastimentos - wizard beach is nice. Nice view from pier out front but all the seats were super uncomfortable
