Glad that they had parking for guests in a gate (though a bit of a tight squeeze) and the room on the first floor was very nice for our one night stay. The location was only two blocks from the shore for a nice walk and near several attractions.

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

Had a great few days in Portsmouth.
Had a great few days in Portsmouth. Stayed in hotel next to Historical Dockyard and spent two full on days exploring it. We bought an Ultimate Explorer ticket, valid for 1 year and we will definitely be back. Such good value for money for what you get. Explored, Nelson’s Victory boat, The Mary Rose and The Warrior to name but 3!
We also went up the Spinnaker Tower for afternoon tea and fantastic views.
There was the added bonus of Gun Wharf Quays- Designer outlet shops for a little shopping and great restaurants.
Couldn’t fault anything.

We only stayed in the dock land area so did not see anything else of Portsmouth, but could have spent much more time here anyway! The historic dockyard with Warrior, Victory, Mary Rose and so much more is a simply superb experience. The Gunwharf Quays is now a shopping and restaurant haven. We ate at the Cozy Club which had excellent food and views across the harbor. We also walked around to the historic Round Tower/Square Tower area which has been restored. The very, very best place to go is the Still and West pub & restaurant on the point there. Amazing food, atmosphere, and ships constantly passing the windows. I would live in this pub! Everything we went to was walking distance, and the train and bus station was opposite our hotel should we have wanted to travel further afield.

My reason for going to Portsmouth was then Dockyard and Naval Museums, easily taking all of my few days exploring. HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, the Submarine visit, the many museums, the bay trip, the only downside was the long lines of people for all these magnificent examples of Britain's former naval power and the opportunity to clamber aboard and around. The whole dockyard area just reeks of history packed into every square foot both on-shore and in the bay.
A fabulous local bus network, superb shopping and many other museums. Along with it's share of pubs and restaurants for all pockets it was difficult to fit as much in as I did in just four days.
The only thing that I would want to avoid the next time is the rain.
The long line of to enter the docks, 45 minutes or an hour or more without any cover does mean you can get washed out if you haven't wrapped up warm and dry.

This city, historical home of Britain's Naval Base houses...
This city, historical home of Britain's Naval Base houses treasures you can't see anywhere else. HMS Victory, the ship Admiral Nelson died in battle is a sight to behold. Excellent audio helps with the tour. The HMS Mary Rose, the 14th century ship on display in an interpretive centre is fascinating. HMS Warrior, the biggest iron hulled warship in the world and other ships available for touring. Boat tours of the harbour or a ferry via the famous hovercraft to Isle of Wight. The D-Day Interpretive Centre and the last remaining craft that landed on the beaches of Normandy there to walk through. A coastal walk that is breathtaking. So, so much to discover and enjoy. We have to go back.
The room is enough space for 2 people. The bathroom is tiny but good. It has a small window which can open for fresh air and ventilation. The location is great, I can walk to Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Museum and Arts Gallery, and clarence pier Portsmouth. I booked it for 1 night. Actually, you could book for 2 nights and it would be better for travelling and explore more things. I got a car and there is secure parking in the hotel, £10 per 24 hours/day. Recommend it. I would come back again.
Cooked breakfast disappointed as poached eggs were hard and scrambled eggs similar.
Helpful pleasant staff and cleanliness good. Furniture a bit tired in the room.
Sea facing rooms have terrific views and the hotel is less than 5 minutes from the Historic Dockyard and 10 minutes from the huge Quays shopping centre within easy walk where you will find many restaurants and bars. Opposite is the Portsmouth Harbour train station, bus station and ferries so transport is easy.
Great for short stay and in a very convenient location close to Portsmouth Harbour Station. Twinned with The Keppel’s Head Hotel where we had a fabulous dinner and lovely breakfast. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Parking was easy outside the house. Room and en-suite very clean, plus coffee making facilities and bottles of water in the room. There was also a kitchen diner downstairs for guests to use.
Such an easy check in with the key box. The location is fantastic with street parking and the train station behind the property, making it easy to get to Portsmouth harbour, city centre or London in a hour if needed!
Comfortable beds, clean house and fabulous kitchen making it possible to cook your own food if you didn’t want to eat out.
Will be staying again!
Fantastic location to explore Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays
All the staff were nice, friendly & professional
Had a free and secure car park

There was a Coop just next door
Had a great stay and would happily stay again - Thankyou Keppels Head Hotel!
Excellent location in Old Portsmouth
On the 25 bus route.
Hotel arranged a local parking permit
Well placed for access to the Historic Dock Yard, Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Quay, Cathedral and Clarence Pier and a good selection of pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance
Exceptionally well decorated and clean rooms with en-suite at just £55/night. Friendly staff (who just completed his degree and was very positive about the family business and life- was a real booster on a cold wet and late evening). This hotel just reflected that positivity.

A nice and pleasant stay with my family. Clean and comfortable hotel room with excellent breakfast buffet. It is worth to mention staff working there . They are all fantastic. Thank you Holiday Inn Express in Portsmouth. We will definitely stay in this place in the future !❤️
Sam was wonderful, the staff were accommodating and helpful.
The hotel is in need of upgrades, decorating, it is very “tired” in appearance. For me the location was great. The lighting in the bathroom is very poor, too dark to see to shave!
Very clean hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were spotless and the breakfast were superb.Situated right by the Spinnaker tower and Gunwharf keys make this hotel ideal to explore all that Portsmouth has to offer.
the room was clean comfortable and spacious, the hotel is in a very good location , so handy for gunwharf quays and shopping, old portsmouth and historic dockyards , bus and train station close by also , i would stay again
very good hotel, good location, the price including breakfast is very good. The food is also good, the staff is very friendly, parking is free. I don't think we need more. Everything is excellent
Room very nice and clean, bed very comfortable, reception area very nice including vending machines for snacks. Staff helpful, check in easy. View of hotel car park from the window.
very convenient location, used the local park and ride to get into city centre where it was just a short walk to Portsmouth harbour, railway station and boutique shops
