Rooms were nice, really quite to which was lovely because I shared a bedroom with my daughter and at another hotel there was a couple fighting which really scared her xx The Copthorne was really quite nice staff and nice breakfast and I was able to park in the hotel carpark which was brilliant.

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.
Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.
At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.
Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.
Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.
The city centre itself isn't very beautiful. However, the city part near the old harbour is quite nice. And Plymouth serves very well as a starting point for trips to adjacent cities and towns in Devon and Cornwall. There are very good bus and train connections, even outside the touristic season. The landscapes in Devon and Cornwall are quite beautiful indeed, with gently rolling hills and marvellous seasights!

Really interesting place full of history.
Really interesting place full of history.
Everywhere was clean and so many different paths and steps allowing access to the sea shore and old buildings.
Huge amount of restaurants covering all types of food for every taste.
Views were amazing and so close to many nature areas.
Many ferries travelling all over the coast to islands, historic docks and secluded beaches.
Only downside for small children would be the lack of a sandy beech.

The older town area where we stayed is lovely & near to the iconic Hoe & Barbican.
Sadly the town of my youth is soul less due to so much "concrete", however work is proceeding to revamp the old boulevards with paving, seating & flower beds so in the coming months it will be far better.
Like all towns some of the larger department store buildings & banks are no longer and stand empty - once they are redeveloped it will be much better
Very easy to get around walking, no need to use public transport for shops, hoe & barbican

We stayed to visit our daughter and partner while they are at Uni in Plymouth. We stayed with our dog Lara. Property was few step down to accommodation (we have seen worse) good area to dry Lara before letting her in to lounge /dinner through to bed room to the right bathroom to the left into kitchen This is a great location 2 min to Hoe, 10 min at most to Barbican. The host are amazing, really accommodating after a long journey. The welcome pack is so welcome just to get a tea or coffee and milk, every thing was there, including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner hand wash, washing up liquid to name but a few treats . Quite a few places could take note. If cleaning product available most people will help to keep it clean.
We would defiantly stay there again. Thank you so much

The Hoe and Barbican areas are lovely and definitely worth visiting. The Barbican area is great for eating out and a stroll along the Hoe is a must. The Royal William Yard is also a pleasant and interesting place to visit.
The modern city centre is quite tatty and run down so worth avoiding.

This trip we were specifically looking at the University and I was pleasantly surprised- lots of resources at their disposal, good student union and accommodation, fantastic library and online resources- good support for students. We ate at Las Iguanas -which was reasonably priced with friendly staff.
Everything else was lovely, everything was new and fresh. Welcome cocktail was a lovely touch, rooms had everything you could possibly need from a city centre hotel. Great location close to the beautiful Hoe, Barbican and Royal William Yard. I chose to have breakfast in the morning, I have to say that it was the best hotel breakfast I have ever experienced. So much variety, from Cereals, cooked breakfast, cold cheese and meats, fruit and yoghurts, waffles, pastries, coffee and juice. Honestly was exceptional, will most definitely be returning
The whole hotel is being refurbished, inside and out. Our room was pristine, with new carpets, furniture and bathroom.
This is a gorgeous, grand Victorian building with many original features. The dining room has impressive high ceilings and plasterwork.and original sash windows,
Cooked breakfast was by pre-order and included in the price. It was hot, freshly cooked and our specific needs (vegetarian) were catered for.
The staff were pleasant, knowledgeable and friendly.
This hotel is literally a minute's walk from Plymouth Hoe.
The location of the hotel is great. Once parked we walked into town, we walked to Plymouth Hoe and out for dinner to the Waterfront one evening. The room was large and clean, though that is what we requested and paid for, so nothing more than what was as expected. Reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly, making booking in us and sorting the parking registration system very easy.
Beautifully presented room. Tea making equipment was spotless as was the bedroom and bathroom. Quiet location but still within walking distance of everything you need to visit. Easy entry system and great contact on first arrival. If I ever need accommodation in Plymouth again I'll try and book here. Great stay from Paul and Finley.
If you looking for an experience that is not you typical modern hotel this is a charming building dating all the way back to 1863. Commanding fantastic view of the city and a stone throw from Plymouth Hoe, it is ideally located. The staff were super friendly and happy to help. The price paid was very good value.
stayed here for Plymouth theatre trip. usually say in city centre but for sake of 15 minute drive this was much less fraught. This hotel is standard big hotel but very comfortable, clean and with excellent staff. Parking felt safe and plenty of it. Excellent buffet breakfast.
Great location ideal if you are going to an event at Plymouth Pavilions, or just visiting Plymouth. Charming old style grand hotel of a bygone era that has potential. This was our second stay in 20 years and we are glad that it is still going. We will stay again. Staff excellent.

A great guest house. Close to Plymouth Hoe & city Centre. Also only a 10-15 minute walk to Coach station 20mins to rail station. Friendly host good clean room and good breakfast. My second time here and would happily stay again
This hotel is central to my needs when working in the Plymouth area. For me, it offers excellent value with efficient friendly staff, a good selection of food and beers, including a plentiful breakfast, whats not to like.
Great location close to city centre. Would be good for a business trip A bit further to walk to attractions like Hoe or Plymouth Dome. Might not be best choice for holiday. Especially for those with reduced mobility.
Well-located hotel in a quiet street very close to Plymouth city centre. Staff were all very nice. Room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent. Plenty to do in the area.
Great location for our travels to Plymouth & on to Devon & Cornwall. Staff most accommodating, with their service. All were friendly & polite from desk, to cleaning personal.
