Beyond The Full Monty
Partially located in the Peak District, Sheffield is best known as the setting of "The Full Monty" and indeed, vibrant Sheffield has everything: excellent shopping, great nightlife and an impressive athletic heritage.
It first became famous during the Industrial Revolution for its pioneering role in the UK steel industry. One technique invented here is commemorated in the name of its most famous theater, The Crucible, home of the Snooker World Championships.
Close by are the peaceful Winter Gardens with their multi-arched roof. The Peace Gardens are overlooked by the elegant town hall, and the focal building of the impressive Botanical Gardens somewhat resembles Crystal Palace, also by the same architect.
The city’s 2 soccer teams – Sheffield United and Wednesday – play at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough Stadium respectively. The cutting-edge English Institute of Sport is also based here, and the nearby Sheffield Arena is a prime UK venue for music and entertainment. The best shopping is found in the Meadowhall Centre near Rotherham.

Sheffield is a brilliant place for a short visit.
Sheffield is a brilliant place for a short visit. There's so much to do. It's a vibrant city with something for everyone – gigs, arts, countryside, shopping, people-watching. Very friendly to visitors. Plenty of trams and buses makes car-free travel easy. If you are travelling by car, allow plenty of time because it can get busy at peak periods. There is plenty of safe parking (try Qpark) but it's not cheap. First time I'd been to a show at the City Hall, and I'm really impressed by the venue. Look up at the painted ceilings. Very comfortable seats, and excellent views of the stage.

One thing that could be improved but not really a major thing would be a walk in wet room mainly for disabilities as i suffer with nerve damage in the base of my back and servear rhumatiod artheritis in both knees caused from 8 years service and 3 tours with the brittish armyRosso - 6.0Scored 6.0

The absolute chaos in the middle of town. Why they couldn’t do one bit and finish it before going on to another part, I don’t know. There was only work being done on limited zones so planning could have caused far less inconvenience. Also, it was very annoying that we couldn’t hail a taxi and had to walk through the cold and wet to get one and be inconvenienced by walking around all the scaffolding etc! We loved the restaurants, however. Pizza Express was very helpful with our three small nieces and nephew. Piccolino made us very welcome and had delicious food. We also ate at Ask Italian, altogether positive. The potholes and lumpy roads made driving around very scary.Cowmeadow - 10Scored 10

A beautiful city which despite its past economic difficulties, is recovering & thriving. The old buildings are gorgeous & the regeneration activities seem to be sympathetic to that. The people are lovely, so welcoming & cheerful. I will definitely go back for a longer visit.Michelle - 10Scored 10

Location was perfect for the weekend to attend a music event at the Utilita Arena and to get in & out of Sheffield City Centre using the Trams. Complementary parking for the weekend was a bonus although at £5 a day, was considered acceptable. Although we did not visit Meadowhall shopping centre, location of hotel meant it was within walking distance. Will use again if we revisit Sheffield in the future. 👍🏼😊😎
