Barbara and Jeremy are fantastic hosts. Very warm and welcoming to my wife and I. You can tell they are truly passionate about their B&B and visitors. They thoughtfully planned out how to keep guests safe during these unique times. It was really really nice to see them taking the pandemic seriously as we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely small town, historic buildings but with enough going on - some great pubs and eating places, tea shops etc. We walked from Bakewell to Chatsworth and back, a really lovely walk though woods and open countryside. The Monsal Trail starts at Bakewell too For walking and cycling. So you don’t need to start every day with a car journey.
We’ve been coming to Bakewell for 30 years and apart from the cost it’s changed very little unlike the rest of England. Our first B&B cost £11 a night then the Rutland Arms was £69. Just potter around for the day and enjoy the being back in the 1950s
A busy town with loads of shops and ideally situated for exploring that area of the Peak district. A pleasant walk in the town and very picturesque bridge and river. Avoid trying to get into the town around 3.30pm as this is when the schools empty and lots of extra traffic in what is a restricted one way system in the centre of town. We ate in the hotel every night but there are loads of pubs and restaurants to choose from. There's even a Bakewell Tart shop!!
Bakewell is a charming small Dales town with lots of character and a wonderful selection of small independent shops. Plenty of restaurants and tea shops. It is very busy but come 6.00pm when day visitors departed, it is a joy to walk around. We will return!
Staying at the Hassop Station Rooms allowed us the leave the car in a safe place and go of cycling and walking all day from the Monsal Trail. Sometimes it is nice not to have the worry about driving to a car park before going out for the day. The trail even allowed you to get to the a main town with out driving. Bakewell can be a be of a challenge to drive into as it is a busy tourist town. The Lime Lounge Coffee House is one of our favourite place to visit. Market days is on a Monday so town extremely busy bit worth a visit.
Bakewell is a lovely place only 5 miles from Chatsworth House. The village itself is quite and clean they have a lovelock bridge where you can buy a lock put your names on it and lock it to bridge to simble your love for one another. There is plenty of shops, Restaurants and pubs and it's the home of the Bakewell tart. We ate at the local Manners pub and at the local Indian called Rajas lovely food.
