I was actually staying in Matlock Bath, which is one mile from Matlock and a whole different experience. Having said that, Matlock is a lovely town with a beautiful central park with a paddling pool and playground. Lots of events are held there. Matlock Bath has the 'Venetian Lights' every year from the end of August until the last weekend in October, which is great for the whole family. The river Derwent runs through the village, there is much entertainment there and lovely picturesque walks, good pubs with excellent food and amusements for those who enjoy them. Bakewell is not far away and is a stunning place for a day trip, as is Chesterfield. It's a wonderful area for exploring and Matlock Bath has the cable cars up to the Heights of Abraham, with its stunning caves, eateries and a park. Summer or Winter, there is masses to do and see in the Matlock/Matlock Bath area and the surrounding Peak District area. A week might not be enough!
A unique feel to Matlock, part seaside feel and part Victorian town. Activities for all from walking, cycling, shopping, parks, Illuminations, fireworks, pubs and live music venues, theme parks, aquarium, cable cars but to name a few. Lots of places to eat, especially fish and chips. A little quiet in winter unless there is an event on like the illuminations.
A lovely town with great restaurants and walking routes in all directions. We thought Heights of Abraham was a bit pricey (£67 for a family of 3 including parking). I preferred walking around Carsington Water and Dovedale, which only cost the parking fee. Very busy everywhere this week due to it being half term. Beautiful area, I wish we had been able to stay for a full week.
Location is good for exploring Derbyshire, only have experience of by car, so can't comment on public transport, but you're not too far from Bakewell, Cromford, Eyam and many of the Peak Districts attractions. The Monsal Trail at Hassop was incredibly busy and if you want to hire a pushbike would be better off booking first. If you like cars then a newish museum at Ambergate called Great British Car Journeys is well worth a visit
Matock is a gem. The bath is a seaside town with a promenade only it's in a gorge in Derbyshire about as far from the sea as you can get. A perfect place to stay as a drop off point for the Derbyshire Dales and the World Heritage Derwent Mills. The Heights of Abraham are breath-taking.

Location was great, a short walk between Matlock and Matlock bath (around 10 mins) which enabled us to walk to dinner and have some drinks. Plenty of places to choose from to go for dinner in Matlock and Matlock bath. Also close enough to Abraham Heights to walk down and save on parking charges (£6/day isn't bad anyway). Great views and lots of walks nearby. We visited Bakewell which was a short drive away, and Lumsdale falls wasn't far from the hotel - definitely worth a trip to see!

Stayed at cedar house from the 4 th to 8 th October . we were made extremely welcome by our lovely friendly host . the room was large and clean throughout, and bed was very comfortable . shower was very efficient too . breakfast was plentiful and very good quality . the B&B is situated in a great location short walk to town centre , and about 20 minutes walk to Matlock bath with plenty to see on the picturesque route there . I would totally recommend this traditional bed and breakfast

Lovely cottage just a short stroll through the park to the town centre. Spacious living and bedroom accommodation with newly renovated bathroom and well-equipped kitchen.. Convenient location for local walks in Matlock area and handy for bus and train stations too. It was perfect for us and would definitely stay here again.
Matlock
Rooms were well located, away from the main pub so no noise from the bar. Great for travelling with dogs. Being located away from the town centre is both a pro and con as Matlock is very steep however the bus stops right outside the car park should you not wish to walk back up from the town.

This is a really quirky place to stay. We stayed in the pavilion beach hut and it was very cute. Very clean and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The room was quiet. The shower was very powerful and water hot. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of Matlock.
Comfortable room, although the bathroom we had was a little on the tiny side, not a massive issue though as it was clean and quiet and having stayed there in the past they've done a fantastic job on the refurbishment. The staff were great and the breakfast was lovely.
