An excellent location for where we needed to visit. Located very near the main streets but in a relatively quiet position. The room was clean, the bed comfy and all the facilties worked well. The reception was always very helpful, and the bar and restaurant gave very good service although we only had a continental breakfast which gave us all the choice we needed.

Very clean, comfortable rooms and pleasant staff. The photos are completely true. It's nice when people treat their work with dedication and responsibility. FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

    A beautiful, impressive city.

A beautiful, impressive city. For €2, you can take a bus to any beach on the Ligurian coast. Eastern Genoa is well-kept, as is the old town, but unfortunately the western part is not. Frozen seafood from China for 12 euros?!? But the focaccia is fresh, the pastries and ice cream are very good. There are many new immigrants who accost you intrusively.

Genoa is a fantastic place to stay—more diverse and a bit rougher around the edges compared to Pisa and Florence, where I stayed earlier. The architecture in the old town is beautiful and full of character. I highly recommend visiting Antica Confetteria Romanengo, a unique and exquisite confectionery.

We were pleasantly surprised by Genova.

We were pleasantly surprised by Genova. Someone had said "its a port town not much to see". This is totally incorrect. Excellent food, easy and safe to wander around. Get local recommendations. Heading up the funicular is a great thing to do, particularly if you enjoy Hiking/walking. There are numerous track above the city, with fabulous views and lovely to be in nature. We used Genova as a base and did day trips to Cinque Terre by train and Portofino bike tour.

I like walking and exploring, the lane ways and open spaces were wonderful to get lost in, pause and look up at the wonderful art, statues and curiosities of yesteryear. The museums are awesome, the food and drinks a delight, the delicious fragrances as you pass the open displays of seafood. I travel alone, though I see many couples and families so there is something for everyone in Genova.

Genoa was a wonderful surprise — I really enjoyed both the city itself and its atmosphere. What made the experience even better was how easy it was to reach amazing places like Cinque Terre, Portofino, and other charming towns by train from there. It's a great base for exploring the Ligurian coast!

I recently reached out to the Italian Prime Minister to suggest the immediate appointment of Irene as Minister for Tourism and Culture. What an exceptional ambassador she would be for Italy!  On a related note, our stay at Casa Mi Tu was nothing short of extraordinary. The communication, advice, location, facilities, and warm welcome were all impeccable. grazie e ci rivedremo John & John
