Livorno features one of the biggest harbours in Italy, from which ferries depart towards a long list of Mediterranean destinations, particularly the Tuscan Archipelago, Sardinia and Corsica. Called ‘Ideal Town’ during Renaissance times for its religious tolerance and its advanced trading regulations, it is surrounded by typical Tuscan countryside and Tyrrhenian beaches.
The city was declared a tax-free port in the 1580s, during the rule of Ferdinando de' Medici. The regulation protected the merchants and granted religious tolerance, attracting numerous Jewish and Protestant immigrants. The Counter-Reformation, the Napoleonic invasions, and the loss of its free-port status after the Italian Reunification were at the base of its commercial decline.
Don’t miss the canals of the Venice District, Piazza della Repubblica, and the Fortezza Nuova fortress. The spacious avenues and streets in the city centre contrast with the undulating landscape of its suburban areas. Most hotels in Livorno are located in the central area.
The city is an important centre from which you can explore Tuscany, including Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and the beach resort of Versilia. The local railway station offers regional and national links, while Pisa International Airport is just 22 km away.
Whether you need a hotel near Livorno’s ferry pier or a B&B close to the suburban beaches, don’t miss the accommodation deals on Booking.com!

Relatively small city, with a nice shopping street, tourist port and an interesting old part of the city called "Venezia" because it was built by people from Venice, working in Livorno. The city has a working-class tradition, so don't expect anything fancy, but it's still well worth a visit.

Livorno is a great base from where to explore Tuscany.
Livorno is a great base from where to explore Tuscany. The Quartiere Venezia, where embassies are, is the nicest place to stay & walk around. There’s an abundance of very good & also some gourmet restaurants. A walk along the seaside is recommended,
Unfortunately there’s some beautiful old historic buildings left to decay, namely the ancient thermal bath house ‚Coralle‘ and the adjacent grand hotel.

Livorno's coastline is picturesque.
Livorno's coastline is picturesque. Terrazza Mascagni is a great place to watch the sunset. The large central market has a vibrant atmosphere. The Piazza Grande is a good place to sit and have a coffee or a meal.
There are many attractions in nearby areas: Pisa, Siena, Lucca.

A great city.
A great city. Kind of dingy and edgy in places. lots of street art. I'd forgotten my favorite artist, Modigliani, was from here. Cuisine livornese is spectacular. Some of the finest seafood I've ever had. The old fortresses and Port area are very romantic. Hope I get to return some day. Loved il Porto Ristopecheria and Osteria della Venezia. Take the Moby Fantasy to Sardegna for a real treat. Getting around town isn't that easy no Uber I didn't understand the bus lines. Great little shopping area I think on what's called Grand Avenue

Livorno is a waterfront town, not BEACHFRONT.
Livorno is a waterfront town, not BEACHFRONT. We were looking for a relaxing day by the sea on a sandy beach, but this is not the city for that. It has beautiful views but the waterfront is rocky, not sandy, in which we were disappointed. It took all morning to figure out that to get to the beach we had to leave the town. $40 in cab fares to go to Tirrenia which is beautiful and sandy. Skip this town, go to Tirrenia instead if you're looking for a traditional sandy beach.

Livorno is a very special artistic and very Italian town to mine point of view. It reminds me of the modern Art which could be with a variety of faces: the dark side of realism as well as the hopeful side of modernism and the fantastically beautiful side of the antic architecture. For swimmers and nature lovers it leads you to the incredibly long and supercool beaches together with nature reservoirs like rocks water areas and so on.. For fashion people Livorno might be special in a variety of flea markets which could be very interesting and unique. There are lots of Art galleries around as well. The restaurants and cafes are also very Italian, with an incredible fish menu ( the freshest fish from the harbor of town ) and reasonable prices.
Great location, most hospitable host I have ever come across. Excellent facilities and the best stocked kitchen with food galore and coffee! (No expense spared!). I truly recommend this place as its a 2 bedroom place and plenty of room for eveb 2 couples. The wine in the fridge qas a nice touch. All up very thoughtful and considered approach to hosting. I was very impressed. Also, very quiet so I finally had the sleep I needed after touring across Italy for 4 months. Definitely the best place I've stayed at!
The hotel is gorgeous and well kept. The view from every window is breathtaking. The building is well preserved without being stuffy or ancient.
Everyone in the staff was exceptionally kind and helpful.
When we mentioned being gluten intolerant, they made up a cute breakfast basket for us, with lots of gf products. Very thoughtful! They also recommended several restaurants to us. One that we went to had amazing gf pizza. Yum! They recommended transportation to us when we left for the train station.
Fantastic building an impressive family home with interesting history and artefacts, great views over Livorno and the sea, near the Funicular, Sanctuary and a couple of restaurants. Scenic walk possibilities. Secure parking. Sumptuous beautifully laid out breakfast. Very kind and helpful yet discrete host. Outside Terrace with bbq and fridge. Livorno promenades beaches town and ferry port all minutes away; Pisa Lucca St Gimignano Florence etc. within reach.
Very convenient for the ferry to Bastia. It was also a 15 min walk to the station to get a 16 min train into Pisa, so we spent a great afternoon there. The trains run every half an hour. Our ferry was at 7am and as we had booked breakfast, they kindly made us up a takeaway bag to take on board. Hotel was clean, car park outside, room wasn't enormous but then we only slept in it. We ate at the restaurant and it was good.
Pro:
-good location
- friendly stuff
- parking near the hotel
Contra:
- quite old numbers in the hotel
- very poor breakfast
- the air condition did not work
- no mosquito nets and a lot of mosquitos
- the sea line opposite the road BUT you could not use it, because opposite a Navy academy strength for 600-700 meters on both side. You can use only few paid beaches but it is also not in the best conditions
Good location for train & bus. Livorno is a divided town geographically & as we arrived by ferry it’s quite a way to the hotel?
So it’s quite a distance to the historic part of the town from this hotel. Staff were helpful when requested. Great coffee shop with wonderful staff adjacent to the hotel, good for breakfast
Very beautiful hotel outside Livorno. Excellent rooms in an old Villa on the ocean. Nice breakfast, great pool with very nice people. Will definitly come back.
Good location to start trips to Pisa, Firence or other locations in tuscany.
Supermarkt nearby, few restaurants as well
Comfortable bed. Good lighting and two suitcase stands -- a rare occurrence. Most hotels only provide one, for two people!!
Raffaele (host) had clearly given considerable thought to detail in setting up the apartment -- covered everything!
The room was great, bathroom and kitchen clean.
The place is close to the center, and 25m walking from terrace on the seacoast.
The host hours for checking in and out we're flexible and the host available.
We had a great time in Livorno
The location was excellent; right in the Venice quarter and walkable to many restaurants and points of interest. Parking was not on site but the hotel told us where to park the car and it was not far. 8 euros for 24 hours.
The hotel architechture is nice to see also inside looks nice , location is perfect if you want to enjoy livorno the food is decent and the fruit so fresh cappucino was also perfect
location near ferry port. tried to find a lunch restaurant on the Monday and after walking around Livorno all morning came back to hotel and had a superb seafood lunch.
If you travel by ferry it is the best place in Livorno. The owner of this place is absolutely beautiful person. I am sure you will appreciate. Really customer oriented.
Location is in the nice part of Livorno. Close to the ocean walk!
Room was very nice and charming.
We got the room with the balcony and loved looking out at the sky.
